The surgeon was excellent
What surprised me most about my basalioma treatment wasn't the procedure itself, but the detailed skin examination I received. The surgeon was excellent. He made sure all removal options were discussed clearly, which was reassuring since I already had my diagnosis before arriving. Right now, the treated area is healing very well. While the medical care was superb and the clinic facilities are great, the administrative staff seemed a bit disorganized, which was the only downside. Despite that, based on the surgeon’s work, it’s a place I would suggest to others.
My Bookimed coordinator was highly skilled, had the passion and patience for her work and that translated to the numerous array of options provided to me to choose from based on my budget during the entire process. She interacted with me 24/7 just for us to have solution within my schedule. All information (proforma, visa assistance, travel guidance and estimated personal expenses) for the entire treatment were on point and I encourage all manner of persons seeking medical treatment abroad to choose Bookimed as their medical tourism partner.
1. Interpreter only come when the patient calls for his services and that is only during the day. If the interpreter can also support beyond the interactions with the specialist. 2. Airport and Internal movement are left to the patient to handle which can sometimes be a major challenge for some category of patients and given the language barrier. 3. Hospital discharges are very strict even if you the patient feels he/she need additional day(s) to be fit for a return to the hotel to continue the recovery.

It was the right choice
What worried me most was the uncertainty and what the treatment plan would be. But my fears were put to rest after the very first consultation. The doctor was very attentive and explained everything in detail and calmly, which immediately put me at ease. I really appreciate that approach. All the staff at the clinic were responsive and supportive at every stage. The clinic itself made a good impression; everything is well organised. I am currently in the recovery phase and feel much calmer, having a clear understanding of the next steps. It was the right choice.
Everything was great

The doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process
My main concern before starting treatment was how my body would react to the drug. I’m undergoing a course of Keytruda immunotherapy for kidney cancer, receiving an infusion every three weeks. Yes, I have experienced some side effects. These are mainly digestive issues, and I feel a little more tired. Of course, I am still concerned that these might get worse over time. But I must say that the doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process.

When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10
My biggest worry was finding a surgeon and team I could completely trust for this personal procedure. That concern disappeared quickly. From the first consultation, the surgeon was professional and the staff were consistently kind, which made the whole process feel secure and well-managed. I'm still in the early stages of healing, but the level of care has been excellent. Everything was clear. When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10. The support has been fantastic.
Coordinator stayed in touch .The clinic exceeded expectations.I wanted to thank Dr. Baris Nuhoglu and his assistant, who took impeccable care of me. They listened to me and resolved a problem that was very serious and causing me discomfort. On May 19th, they gave me a new birth with professionalism, seriousness, and empathy.I have e big gratitude and deep respect to Dr. Baris and his team, and I wish to return in a few months for a check-up and, who knows, maybe for another new treatment.😁😉👍

The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience
My biggest concern before the operation was the recovery period, but now, 15 days after the prosthetic testicle implant surgery, I can say that things are going as expected. I received a small prosthesis measuring 3.5 cm; although I’m not sure of the brand, I’m satisfied with it. The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience. Everything went well. The recovery period is going well and without any problems so far.
The service was excellent, and the check-in and check-out were a real treat
No, I'm happy with the service and the performance

Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience
The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

I felt like we had VIP treatment
My care was very good from start to finish. As soon as I arrived at the hospital, I was greeted by my interpreter and team. They were very friendly, put me at ease and explained what would happen and when. I had checks done and blood taken etc and met the consultant. He was absolutely lovely and again explained the whole procedure. I also met with the Anaesthetist. My procedure was completed and the care was fantastic from all the staff involved. The room and hospital were great. I felt like we had VIP treatment. The Hotel was also nice and everything runs like clockwork. Thanks to all the team but, especially to Ishmeal, Senna and Doctor Ozturk.
Always being told what was happening. Interpretor always on hand.

But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way
There are certain issues with the hospital, in particular, the staff who are in no hurry and we had to spend the whole day in the hospital instead of a few hours - we waited, waited, and waited again..... But I really liked the Bukimed service - they helped, supported, organised everything in the best possible way. Thank you.
Overall, the hospital is good
Perhaps it's due to a different mentality, but we didn't really like waiting endlessly - no procedure or appointment started on time, no one is in a hurry and no one appreciates other people's time.

Excellent clinic, attentive and meticulous (in a good sense) doctors
Bookimed staff and interpreters accompanied us every step of the way, we got answers to all our questions. Comfortable room for the patient and the attendant (in our case) Excellent clinic, attentive and meticulous (in a good sense) doctors. The medical staff also, put all the drips, served and made all the analyses on schedule. All promptly and without unnecessary questions. Tasty and nourishing food was provided for both the patient and the attendant. On the territory of the hospital is a beautiful small park for walking, as well as in the clinic itself there are many places for rest and waiting The clinic met all expectations and costs
What I liked most was the competence and attentiveness of the doctors

FAQ about Partial Glossectomy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is a partial glossectomy for oral cancer treatment in Turkey, and why is it performed?

Partial glossectomy in Turkey is a surgical procedure to treat oral cancer. Surgeons remove only the cancerous part of the tongue while patients are under general anaesthesia. This eliminates tumours but preserves healthy tissue to help with speaking, chewing, and swallowing.

  • Tumour removal: Surgeons excise the malignancy and a healthy tissue safety margin.
  • Functional preservation: Procedures aim to save muscle for long-term speech and swallowing.
  • Cancer staging: Doctors often pair surgery with neck dissection to check lymph nodes.
  • Reconstructive surgery: Large resections may require tissue flaps from the forearm or thigh.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center in Istanbul is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US. This partnership gives patients access to international treatment protocols. Professor Mehmet Emre Ustundag at this centre has published 47 scientific articles on head and neck surgery.

Patient Consensus: Turkish clinics provide clear guidance on tissue removal based on tumour depth. Patients value having access to speech therapy and rehabilitation to help them adjust after surgery.

How will a partial glossectomy in Turkey affect my speech and ability to swallow?

Partial glossectomy in Turkey temporarily disrupts speech and swallowing due to swelling and structural changes. Most patients reclaim functional abilities within six to twelve months as the brain compensates. Recovery involves intensive speech-language pathology and phased diet changes while the surgical site heals.

  • Speech intelligibility: Patients typically maintain 76-82% long-term clarity once swelling subsides and therapy begins.
  • Consonant precision: Difficulty pronouncing sounds like t, d, and l is common initially after surgery.
  • Swallowing safety: Early reliance on liquid diets prevents aspiration before tongue control and coordination improve.
  • Dietary changes: Small bites and extra fluids help clear dry or crumbly foods after surgery.
  • Rehabilitation timing: Specialist therapy often starts by day 2 to build essential compensatory strategies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center in Istanbul are affiliated with institutions like Johns Hopkins to apply oncology protocols. Professors like Dr Mehmet Emre Ustundag, who has 40+ published research articles, focus on primary closure techniques. This surgical choice often results in better long-term movement than more invasive reconstructions.

Patient Consensus: Expect speech changes to be most radical immediately after surgery while the tongue is swollen. Patients find that swallowing feels awkward rather than impossible. This often requires slower eating and avoiding dry foods while in Turkey.

Will I require a neck dissection alongside my partial glossectomy in Turkey?

Whether you require a neck dissection depends on the tumour depth and lymph node involvement. Turkish specialists at JCI-accredited centres follow international protocols. They typically recommend elective neck dissection if the primary tumour depth exceeds 3 or 4 millimetres.

  • Lymph node status: Suspicious nodes on CT or PET scans require surgical neck dissection.
  • Depth of invasion: Deep tumours increase the risk of microscopic spread to the neck.
  • Tumour boards: Multi-disciplinary teams at Anadolu Medical Center review every case before surgery.
  • Simultaneous surgery: Surgeons perform the neck dissection and glossectomy during one general anaesthetic session.
  • Staging: Specialists use precise imaging to map tumour borders and identify affected nodes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While a partial glossectomy in Turkey averages $5,500, Anadolu Medical Center offers tailored packages. Its affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine provides clinical pathways used in American oncology centres.

Patient Consensus: Patients often mention the peace of mind provided by personal coordinators. The presence of English-speaking interpreters at major Istanbul clinics makes the surgical staging process feel straightforward.

Will I require further adjuvant treatment after my partial glossectomy in Turkey?

Whether further treatment is required depends on the final pathology report. While surgeons remove the visible tumour, microscopic high-risk features and lymph node status determine if radiotherapy or chemotherapy is necessary. Turkish oncologists follow international protocols to reduce the risk of the cancer returning.

  • Radiotherapy indicators: Usually recommended for positive margins, perineural invasion, or tumour depth over 4mm.
  • Nodal involvement: Spread to neck lymph nodes typically triggers additional radiation or chemoradiotherapy.
  • Treatment windows: Standard guidelines advise starting adjuvant therapies within 4 to 6 weeks post-surgery.
  • Pathology metrics: Specialists assess lymphovascular invasion and extranodal extension to map further care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center maintains a direct partnership with Johns Hopkins Hospital. Their head and neck cancer protocols mirror top US standards. If pathology confirms high-risk features, patients can access specialised radiation techniques through specialists like Professor Berrin Pehlivan.

Patient Consensus: Successful surgery is the first step, but the final histopathology report dictates the remaining journey. Patients suggest securing English translations of all reports. This helps with coordination with oncologists back in Australia.

Will my tongue require reconstruction following a partial glossectomy in Turkey?

Whether a tongue needs reconstruction after a partial glossectomy in Turkey depends on how much tissue is removed. Turkish specialists typically perform primary closure for small defects under 30%. However, larger excisions often require local flaps or microvascular free flaps to restore speech and swallowing.

  • Tissue volume: Defects removing less than one third of the tongue usually heal without grafts.
  • Reconstruction type: Surgeons use local flaps or forearm tissue for larger defects to prevent anchoring.
  • Integrated planning: Accredited centres like Anadolu Medical Center use tumour boards for collaborative surgical planning.
  • Clinical expertise: Professors like Dr Mehmet Emre Ustundag specialise in complex head and neck oncology.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital. This means patients access international oncology protocols. While a partial glossectomy costs from $5,500 to $10,500, choosing a JCI-accredited facility provides a team of oncologists and reconstructive specialists. This allows for immediate repair during a single theatre session.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that Turkish hospitals provide comprehensive support. This includes personal coordinators and interpreters to manage the recovery. The availability of airport transfers and hotel booking assistance makes the logistics of a long-stay trip manageable.

How long must I remain in Turkey following a partial glossectomy?

Patients typically need to stay in Turkey for 10 to 14 days following a partial glossectomy. This timeframe allows surgeons to monitor healing and manage swelling. It also ensures patients can swallow safely before flying home. Major centres in Istanbul provide the necessary specialist follow-up during this recovery window.

  • Hospitalisation period: Expect to spend 1–2 nights in hospital for uncomplicated partial resections.
  • Monitoring window: Remain in Turkey for 7–10 days post-discharge to check for bleeding or infection.
  • Follow-up appointment: A final surgical review occurs 10–14 days after surgery to confirm travel fitness.
  • Travel clearance: Surgeons at JCI-accredited clinics must provide a formal fit-to-fly certificate for airlines.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic surgery requires 14 days. However, Bookimed data shows that complex cases involving neck dissection or reconstruction require longer stays. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Emre Ustundag at Anadolu Medical Center specialises in head and neck surgery. His patients often require a 3-week stay for recovery. Extended monitoring is vital when surgical drains are used.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend confirming when sutures and drains will be removed before booking return flights. Many suggest requesting written discharge instructions and a telehealth plan for support after returning to Australia.
