No positive statements identified
the hospital facilitator did not provide all the necessary information to the hotel: 1. there were no baby cots upon arrival. we had to ask ourselves 2. we made explicit requests that we need breakfast. however the next day we were told only rooms were booked. No breakfast.
the short hospital stay
the indifferent attitude of the nurses...no smiles, no empathy, no children's meal, lunch served at 2.30pm for patients' parents

FAQ about Orchidopexy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is it safe to travel to Turkey for a child's orchidopexy?

Travelling to Turkey for a child's orchidopexy is safe when choosing JCI-accredited hospitals. You should select specialist paediatric urologists. Infrastructure in Istanbul and Ankara meets international standards. Success relies on verifying paediatric surgical credentials. Allow 7–10 days post-surgery before flying home to Australia.

  • Hospital standards: Leading centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.
  • Specialist surgeons: Professionals like Dr Ozkan Onuk have performed 1,200+ urological procedures.
  • Affordable care: Orchidopexy costs from $2,200 to $4,200 in Turkey.
  • Travel window: Children should wait 7–10 days before flying to prevent swelling after surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows Medipol Mega University Hospital serves 1,000,000+ patients annually. It was ranked best for paediatric specialities. Their high volume means surgical teams see complex orchidopexy cases daily. For Australian parents, multispecialty hospitals offer immediate access to paediatric intensive care if required.

Patient Consensus: Parents recommend confirming the anaesthetist is a paediatric specialist. This specialist should routinely work with young children. Obtain early written discharge instructions and digital records in Turkey. This ensures seamless follow-up with your Australian GP.

What is the success rate of an orchidopexy performed in Turkey?

Orchidopexy in Turkey maintains a success rate between 90% and 98%. This matches international healthcare standards. Results depend on the initial testicular position. Palpable cases reach 96.9% success. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul specialise in these procedures for proper scrotal placement. This helps prevent future atrophy.

  • Palpable testicles: Surgeons achieve a 96.9% success rate using a single scrotal incision.
  • Inguinal canal: Standard orchidopexy techniques for testicles in the canal show an 89.5% success rate.
  • Abdominal cases: Laparoscopic or staged procedures for non-palpable testicles result in 74% to 85% success.
  • Optimal timing: Operating between 6 and 18 months of age promotes normal growth and fertility.
  • Cost range: Procedure costs from $2,200 to $4,200 at leading Turkish medical centres.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success often hinges on selecting a dedicated paediatric specialist rather than a general urologist. Bookimed data shows high-volume centres like Medipol Mega University Hospital, which serves 1,000,000+ patients annually. These centres offer access to professors like Dr Ozkan Onuk with specific expertise in complex paediatric urology cases.

Patient Consensus: Success depends on early treatment and choosing a specialist paediatric urologist. Families found that having a clear follow-up plan in Turkey helped achieve the best outcomes.

At what age should a child undergo an orchidopexy in Turkey?

Turkish paediatric urologists generally recommend performing orchidopexy when a child is between 6 and 12 months old. Surgery is typically scheduled if testicles have not naturally descended by 6 months. Early intervention at JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul protects future fertility and reduces long-term health risks.

  • Clinical timing: Specialists advise surgery no later than 18 months to prevent irreversible cell damage.
  • Fertility preservation: Moving the testicle early protects sperm-producing cells from higher abdominal temperatures.
  • Cancer screening: Proper positioning in the scrotum allows for effective routine monitoring throughout adulthood.
  • Surgical expertise: Professors like Dr Ozkan Onuk have performed over 1,200 specialised urological procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While base orchidopexy costs from $2,200 to $4,200, many Australian families choose Medipol Mega University Hospital. This centre is specifically recognised for paediatric care. Their surgeons often use the Da Vinci robotic system for more precision in complex cases.

Patient Consensus: Parents found that seeking an early paediatric urology opinion clarified if surgery was necessary. They appreciated having clear follow-up plans, including telehealth options, organised before departing Turkey.

What is an orchidopexy and how is the surgery performed in Turkey?

Orchidopexy is a surgical procedure to move an undescended testicle into the scrotum. In Turkey, specialists use small groin incisions or laparoscopic techniques. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul and other cities offer this for A$3,000 to A$5,800. These facilities provide parents with a safe alternative and significant savings.

  • Surgical approach: Surgeons use small 2–3 cm incisions or laparoscopy for higher, hidden testicles.
  • Anaesthesia protocol: Patients receive general anaesthetic and local blocks for post-surgical pain relief.
  • Securing method: The testicle is anchored in a Dartos pouch using dissolvable sutures.
  • Recovery timeline: Most children return to low-impact activities within 1–2 days after surgery.
  • Follow-up care: Turkish clinics include wound checks and paediatric specialist consultations in bundles.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many centres treat adult urology. However, surgeons like Dr Bugra Bilge Keseroglu at Liv Hospital specialise in robotic techniques. Families often save up to _price_percent_discount_% compared to Australian private fees. These facilities see over 250,000 patients annually.

Patient Consensus: Parents describe this as a routine day procedure under general anaesthetic. Any swelling is usually manageable. They recommend getting clear written instructions on wound care before returning to Australia.

What is the recovery process after an orchidopexy in Turkey?

Recovery after orchidopexy in Turkey involves a 5–7 day stay for monitoring and fit-to-fly clearance. Patients manage swelling and soreness with paracetamol while following strict activity rules. Avoid straddling movements and strenuous play for 2–4 weeks to protect the repositioned testicle.

  • Clinical stay: Patients typically spend 1–2 days in hospital for monitoring and pain management.
  • Fitness to fly: Most Turkish clinics require a 5–7 day wait before issuing flight certificates.
  • Activity limits: Avoid bicycles, swings, and swimming for 3–4 weeks to prevent wound issues.
  • Wound care: Absorbable stitches dissolve naturally; keep the incision dry for 7–10 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing JCI-accredited centres like Medipol Mega or Hisar Hospital allows access to robotic Da Vinci systems. Surgeons like Dr Ozkan Onuk have performed 1,200+ urological procedures. This level of experience often leads to precise tissue handling and faster wound healing.

Patient Consensus: Expect scrotal swelling and soreness initially, so use pain relief and loose clothing. Plan extra buffer days in Turkey to avoid the discomfort of long-haul flights.

How long does an orchidopexy take and is a hospital stay required in Turkey?

Orchidopexy in Turkey typically takes 30 to 60 minutes for single cases. While often a day procedure, many Turkish packages include a one-night hospital stay. Patients usually stay in the surgical suite for 1 to 2 hours. This time includes anaesthesia preparation.

  • Simple duration: Surgeons often complete single undescended testicle repairs within 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Complex cases: Bilateral or abdominal procedures may require 60 to 90 minutes of theatre time.
  • Clinical observation: JCI-accredited facilities like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental often include overnight stays for international patients.
  • Travel timeline: Specialists at Liv Hospital suggest staying 6 to 7 days for follow-up care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows orchidopexy costs from $2,200 to $4,200, roughly _price_percent_discount_% less than Australian averages. Clinics like Medipol Mega often bundle same-day discharge with post-operative support for safe recovery.

Patient Consensus: Families in Turkey found the surgery quick. They appreciated that packages often cover the first night in hospital. Confirming anaesthesia recovery times and discharge criteria helped them plan the journey home more effectively.
