I liked the organisation
I liked the organisation. Transfer airport-hotel-clinic-hotel-airport. The interpreter met and accompanied me every step of the way. My tests were ready in a week and I did not wait for the results in Istanbul, when I returned home I contacted the translator and he organised an online consultation with the doctor and sent me a consultation sheet. Will send the consultation sheet translated later.

From personal experience, very bad. Money was taken, no treatment was prescribed. Diagonstik proiti from morning to evening turn from one office to another. I went for 2 days, my condition worsened and I left. Transfer managers, the hotel is well organized. And you should not go to the clinic, the doctors do not understand the patient. This is not a clinic, probably a diagnostic center. With my shortness of breath, I almost died in the corridor, they did not provide honey. help. Generally Emsey for me

I took my mother (Halimo Ileye) to see Dr Baris at Okan's rheumatology clinic as was arranged by you. He only saw her for 25 mins then asked her to come back the following day for blood tests. He saw my mother for another 25 mins on the next day briefly explaining her blood tests' results, then prescribed some osteoarthritis drugs for her and recommended some physical therapy tips and told us that we would get the full report in a day or two. However, when we received the report on Thursday, I asked his secretary to go back to him and ask him to send us a full report and not just her laboratory results and to include all the medications he prescribed for my mother, their commercial names, frequency and length of use, as this was verbally explained during the session and not in writing

Our happiness was beyond limit!!!About the Doctor: I want to express my great gratitude to the coordinating doctor Katya Bonko, I could not say that I was not more attentive and responsive, a competent doctor!!!About the Clinic: On the very first day of our arrival, we were taken to the clinic to see a doctor
I want to express my great gratitude to the coordinating doctor Katya Bonko, I could not say that I was not more attentive and responsive, a competent doctor !!! She felt at a distance that she was worried about me ... My daughter in Russia had hemorrhagic vasculitis mixed, planted for three years on the strictest diet, limited the active child in everything! In short, on their recommendation, I should have put the child in a flask! Where I just did not apply in Russia, but for some reason this diagnosis frightened everyone! Upset I began to search the Internet for answers to my questions and came across Bookimed ... I decided to fill out a questionnaire! Katia immediately contacted me! Having listened to everything that disturbs me, she quickly picked up the Medicalpark clinic and recommended to us a wonderful (as it turned out) Dr. Aysha children's rheumatologist !!! On the very first day of our arrival, we were taken to the clinic to see a doctor. This day for my child was one of the happiest! She lifted all restrictions !!! Our happiness was beyond limit !!! Quickly passed the examination. Said the child is healthy, live a full life! We were given a responsible, good interpreter !!! Thanks to the organizer Aigul, immediately responded and solved the problems (although there were practically no problems, only the language barrier

FAQ about Medication therapy for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the main treatment options for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) medication therapy in Turkey?

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) treatment in Turkey centres on immunosuppressants like hydroxychloroquine and intravenous rituximab for severe cases. Rheumatologists closely monitor kidney and liver function to adjust long-term medication and manage flares effectively.

  • Antimalarial medication: Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) forms the foundation for most therapy plans.
  • Corticosteroids: Used short-term to control inflammation during flares.
  • Immunosuppressants: Azathioprine and mycophenolate manage systemic and kidney involvement.
  • Biologic therapy: Rituximab infusion treats severe or neurological lupus forms.
  • Follow-up: Regular specialist reviews include kidney and liver function tests.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics, such as Memorial Şişli and Liv Hospital Ulus in Istanbul, provide access to biologics like rituximab with hospital stays for monitoring. Australian patients benefit from English-speaking coordinators and personalised support to maintain strict medication adherence and follow-up.

Patient Consensus: Patients highlight early Plaquenil use improves life quality and symptom control in Turkey. Strict monitoring after rituximab infusions ensures safety and better outcomes. Many appreciate nutritional and lifestyle advice that complements medication therapy.

How is lupus nephritis treated with medication in Turkey as part of SLE management?

Lupus nephritis treatment in Turkey combines intravenous steroids, immunosuppressants like mycophenolate mofetil, and hydroxychloroquine. Biologic drugs such as belimumab are used in severe cases to reduce steroid use. Regular monitoring of kidney function and blood pressure is crucial to managing this condition effectively.

  • Induction therapy: 3-day intravenous methyl-prednisolone pulse to rapidly control kidney inflammation.
  • Maintenance therapy: oral corticosteroids with mycophenolate mofetil or azathioprine to prevent flare-ups.
  • Baseline treatment: hydroxychloroquine used by 91%–97% of patients, taking up to 12 months for full effect.
  • Severe cases: biologic agents like belimumab and anifrolumab reduce steroid needs and infection risks.
  • Supportive care: ACE inhibitors or ARBs and diuretics help control blood pressure and swelling.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics, such as Memorial Şişli Hospital and Liv Hospital, apply internationally guided treatments combining pulse steroids with immunosuppressants. Packages often include thorough follow-up, essential for safely tapering medications and managing side effects. Biologics are increasingly available, offering advanced options for tough-to-treat lupus nephritis.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report fast inflammation control with IV steroids followed by stable management on oral meds. Many highlight hydroxychloroquine’s slow but important effect and the ease of monitoring kidney health with specialist help. Blood pressure control and diet guidance also stand out as helpful parts of treatment.

Australian patients suggest confirming medication cover with insurers before travelling to Turkey for SLE treatment.

How do rheumatologists in Turkey manage corticosteroid side effects during systemic lupus erythematosus treatment?

Rheumatologists in Turkey manage corticosteroid side effects during systemic lupus erythematosus treatment by using strict steroid tapering, early steroid-sparing drugs like hydroxychloroquine and biologics, plus regular monitoring of blood sugar, blood pressure, and bone health to reduce risks such as diabetes and osteoporosis.

  • Steroid tapering: Gradual dose reduction in 5–10 mg steps prevents adrenal insufficiency.
  • Hydroxychloroquine use: Given to almost all patients to control disease and reduce steroid need.
  • Biologics: Drugs like Benlysta and Saphnelo are started early to limit steroid exposure.
  • Metabolic monitoring: Frequent blood sugar and blood pressure checks detect complications early.
  • Bone health: Supplementation and scans help prevent osteoporosis during long-term corticosteroid use.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish rheumatologists follow strict protocols for steroid tapering combined with early biologic use. Clinics like Memorial Şişli Hospital feature Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, ensuring global-quality care and thorough monitoring. Patients benefit from confirming their specialists offer gradual steroid reduction plus early hydroxychloroquine initiation.

Patient Consensus: Patients note Turkish specialists avoid sudden steroid stops and monitor side effects closely. Regular tests for blood sugar and bone density are routine, which helps manage long-term treatment challenges effectively. The approach feels reassuring and well-structured for Australians seeking SLE care in Turkey.

How is medication therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus managed in Turkey during pregnancy?

Medication therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) during pregnancy in Turkey closely follows international standards. It focuses on pregnancy-safe drugs like hydroxychloroquine and low-dose aspirin. Specialists use low-dose corticosteroids and azathioprine when necessary. They avoid harmful drugs such as mycophenolate and methotrexate to protect mother and baby.

  • Hydroxychloroquine: cornerstone drug to reduce lupus flares and pregnancy risks.
  • Low-dose aspirin: started early to lower pre-eclampsia risk in all SLE pregnancies.
  • Immunosuppressants: azathioprine and calcineurin inhibitors are preferred if needed.
  • High-risk monitoring: fetal echocardiography for mothers with specific antibodies.
  • Contraindicated drugs: mycophenolate, methotrexate, and cyclophosphamide are stopped before conception.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul's top hospitals like Memorial Şişli and Liv Hospital Ulus offer JCI-accredited care with teams of rheumatologists and obstetricians experienced in SLE pregnancy management. This ensures treatment plans balance disease control and foetal safety with close monitoring.
