How Much Does Lumpectomy Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Lumpectomy in Turkey typically costs from AUD $2,110 to AUD $6,330. Prices depend on the surgical technique, such as the need for axillary dissection or sentinel lymph node biopsy. In Australia, patients often face costs around AUD $9,988 for similar private treatment. By choosing Turkey, Australians can save approximately 58%. Standard packages usually cover the surgical fee, preoperative tests, and a specialist consultation.

  • Axillary dissection: typically adds 50–60% to the base lumpectomy cost for more complex cases.
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy: often increases the surgical price by 40–50% due to specialised pathology.
  • Treatment hubs: Most procedures take place in Istanbul, Antalya, or Eskisehir at JCI-accredited hospitals.
  • Clinical expertise: Prices reflect the use of advanced equipment like the Da Vinci robotic system.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While base prices are attractive, the best value lies in comprehensive surgical packages. Memorial Sisli Hospital offers fixed-price bundles starting around A$11,500 that include all necessary preoperative tests. This transparency helps Australians avoid the common out-of-pocket gaps found in private health insurance. Choosing clinics with high-volume cancer centres, like Anadolu Medical Center, provides access to surgeons with US-based training.

Data verified by Bookimed as of August 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 85 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

I am confident I am going to beat this breast tumor with the help of the wonderful care given at Hisar Intercontinental Hospital
I was really nervous about a new breast lump that developed. I reached out to Book I med and explained my situation. I was directed to Hisar Intercontinental Hospital. They did biopsy, ultrasound and PET scan. Although I wanted surgery, doctor explained it wasn't in my best interest and recommended medication instead. Doctors were careful to come up with plan, they didn't rush to make decisions. I had a medical coordinator who assisted in transportation to and from hospital and coordinating tests and doctor visits. I was also assigned an interpreter for Turkish to English. They were both wonderful and it was nice to have assistance and smiling faces when I arrived. They always took time to listen to concerns and answer questions. I met with 2 doctors, a breast cancer surgeon and oncologist. They both were professional and friendly. They met with a tumor board of physicians to discuss my plan.I feel like I got professional care and good treatment plan. The hospital was clean and modern. They did a good job with the tests, I didn't feel any pain from the doctor who did my biopsy. Believe me when you have something as scary as a breast lump you want to be in good hands.I paid for each test and medication individually with credit card. I was told the cost before each purchase. Even though the whole bill wasn't cheap, it's much much lower cost than I could get in United States. As a self pay patient I am glad for that also. So overall even though I was struggling with something really bad(tumor) I feel like I got great and professional care at a decent price. I would truly recommend this to anyone. And Turkey is such a beautiful country with friendly people. There is hidden artwork everywhere. So even though I am going through this ordeal being in beautiful Turkey makes it not so bad. The food here is really good and cheap. I'm staying in Old city which has tons of Cafe restaurants. In your spare time just sitting at a Cafe and watching the myriad of people walking by is fun. I am confident I am going to beat this breast tumor with the help of the wonderful care given at Hisar Intercontinental Hospital.

I would like to express my gratitude to my attending doctor, surgeon, my coordinator, all nurses and interpreters
I was treated for breast cancer, I liked everything, I had chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy, and now every 3 months I have check-ups. I would like to express my gratitude to my attending doctor, surgeon, my coordinator, all nurses and interpreters, I remember when I first arrived, I was so confused, panic and fear. But as soon as the treatment started, everything went in its own way, I had to go through everything and I am glad I did. Thank you!

FAQ about Lumpectomy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How can I verify the qualifications of a surgeon performing a lumpectomy in Turkey?

To verify a lumpectomy surgeon in Turkey, confirm registration with the Ministry of Health. Also check the Turkish Medical Association (TTB). Patients should prioritise Associate Professors or Professors at JCI-accredited hospitals. These surgeons should hold European Board of Surgery (EBSQ) qualifications in breast or endocrine surgery.

  • Ministry registration: Verify active licensure through the Turkish Ministry of Health Doctor Information Bank.
  • Professional memberships: Check for active status in the Turkish Surgical Association or European Board of Surgery.
  • Institutional accreditation: Ensure the facility holds Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for surgical safety.
  • Oncological expertise: Confirm the surgeon works within a multidisciplinary tumour board for pathology review.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeon experience in Turkey often exceeds international averages due to high patient volumes. Dr. Nuri Alper Sahbaz at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental has performed 2,000+ procedures. He is one of only five Turkish surgeons certified by the European Board of Endocrine Surgery. Choosing such highly specialised experts often results in superior oncoplastic outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Clinics in Turkey provide professional care. Dedicated interpreters and coordinators manage all hospital logistics. Doctors take time to explain treatment plans and tumour board decisions without rushing into surgery. Patients appreciate the modern, clean facilities and transparent pricing for tests and medications.

Is follow-up care or radiation therapy included after a lumpectomy in Turkey?

Standard lumpectomy packages in Turkey typically cover the surgery, anaesthesia, and a 1–2 day hospital stay. However, radiation therapy is rarely included in the base price. Patients should expect to pay for radiotherapy sessions separately. Breast-conserving surgery usually requires follow-up radiation to reduce recurrence risks.

  • Package inclusions: Packages cover preoperative tests, consultations, surgical fees, and pathology margin checks.
  • Radiation costs: Radiotherapy is billed separately. It often uses technologies like the TrueBeam STx linear accelerator.
  • Initial aftercare: Wound reviews and immediate postoperative monitoring are bundled during the first 14 days.
  • Long-term follow-up: Most clinics offer 1–3 virtual consultations. Ongoing scans are managed in Australia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Base surgery costs from $1,500 to $4,500 are competitive. However, the 4–8 week wait for radiation planning is a critical factor for Australians. Selecting a high-volume centre like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental allows for seamless transfer between the surgical team and in-house oncologists. This reduces logistical delays between healing and treatment.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate having a dedicated medical coordinator. The coordinator manages the timeline between surgery and oncology reviews. Expect to pay for tests and medications individually. However, total costs remain much lower than in Australia.

Which hospitals and cities in Turkey are best for a lumpectomy?

Istanbul and Ankara are the premier cities for a lumpectomy in Turkey. Istanbul serves as the primary hub with JCI-accredited facilities like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Bahçelievler. These centres provide oncoplastic surgery and sentinel lymph node mapping. They also use multidisciplinary tumour boards to plan precise breast cancer treatment.

  • Istanbul hub: Features hospitals like Memorial Şişli with specialist breast surgeons like Dr Mert Tanal.
  • Ankara excellence: Memorial Ankara Hospital offers diagnostic imaging and heart-safe radiotherapy technologies.
  • Specialist surgeons: Associate Professor Nuri Alper Sahbaz at Hisar Hospital has performed 2,000+ successful operations.
  • Accredited facilities: Anadolu Medical Center is affiliated with Johns Hopkins and holds OECI cancer certification.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many hospitals offer lumpectomies, choosing a centre with an integrated tumour board is vital. At Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, surgeons and oncologists review cases collectively before surgery. This multidisciplinary approach means the surgical plan aligns perfectly with necessary post-operative therapies. These include chemotherapy or radiation.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Istanbul appreciate having personal coordinators and professional interpreters for all oncology appointments. The care is thorough. Surgeons take time to explain why specific medications might be better than immediate surgery.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey after a lumpectomy?

Most patients should stay in Turkey for 10 to 14 days after a lumpectomy. This allows time for initial healing, drain removal if needed, and a final pathology review. The review confirms clear surgical margins before international air travel.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 1 to 2 days in hospital depending on lymph node involvement.
  • Drain removal: Surgeons typically remove surgical drains between day 4 and day 7 after the operation.
  • Pathology review: Final biopsy results generally take 7 to 10 days to process.
  • Flight clearance: Most specialists advise waiting 10 days to minimise DVT and wound stress.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic lumpectomy packages start from $1,500, stay duration depends heavily on nodal surgery. JCI-accredited centres like Memorial Şişli Hospital often require 2 nights in theatre for axillary dissection. This compares to just 1 night for standard tumour removal.

Patient Consensus: The first week feels the roughest, even if incisions look fine externally. Patients recommend staying at least 2 weeks in Turkey to manage arm sensitivity and airport travel.

What is typically included in a lumpectomy treatment package in Turkey?

Standard lumpectomy treatment packages in Turkey typically include the surgical procedure, anaesthesia, pre-operative screenings, and 1–2 nights of hospitalisation. Comprehensive options also bundle VIP airport transfers, local transport, and 4-star or 5-star hotel accommodation for the patient and a companion.

  • Clinical components: Includes surgeon fees, anaesthetist fees, operating theatre costs, and essential pathology.
  • Diagnostic tests: Covers preoperative blood panels, biochemistry, coagulation profiles, and basic anaesthesia screenings.
  • Recovery support: Provides hospital meals, nursing care, essential post-operative medications, and initial wound dressings.
  • Logistical services: Features dedicated medical interpreters, airport-to-hotel transfers, and local transport for clinic visits.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While base prices start at $1,500, premium packages for A$18,700–A$19,900 at centres like Memorial Şişli Hospital include axillary dissection. These techniques are vital for staging cancer but are rarely included in standard "lump removal" quotes.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Istanbul appreciate having professional interpreters and coordinators manage all transport and appointment schedules. The modern, clean hospitals provide excellent care, and paying for diagnostic tests individually ensures full transparency.
