I recommend bookimed
My husband and I traveled from New Zealand to both get eye lens replacement surgery. From the start we have had print and effient communication. With every question answered. We were picked up from the airport, taken to hotel, then the same day at our request taken to the hospital for our appointment. Two days later we were in having eye surgery again with pick ups and drop offs. We were met at the hospital entrance, by bookimed.com translators and hospital translators they were amazing every day, in every way. The doctors were provisional and onto it, explaining every detail, and answering all our questions. Our procedure went very well and we are very happy with the outcome and how amazing we can see, no longer with glasses or contacts. I recommend bookimed.com to everyone. Vikki

Now, after eye surgery, things are better and I can see much better without glasses
I am Senad Kruesi, a passionate motorcyclist, travelling a lot and riding in the rain, I had a serious accident in Panama. In Vietnam at night and in the rain, a road obstacle and an oncoming traffic light blinded me, my glasses were full of drops.... Now, after eye surgery, things are better and I can see much better without glasses..... This hospital is modern and responsive. Best wishes from Thailand

When considering IOLs implantation, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Cataract surgery with IOL replacement

This procedure involves removing the cloudy lens of the eye and replacing it with an artificial intraocular lens to restore clear vision.

Pros: High success rates of over 95% for improved vision. Quick recovery time with most patients seeing clearly within a few days.
Cons: Potential for minor post-operative complications like dry eyes or halos around lights in less than 10% of cases.
Effectiveness: 98% of patients achieve significantly improved vision.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: 1-2 weeks
Best for: Individuals with cataracts causing vision impairment, affecting daily activities.
Prices: Cost of Cataract surgery with IOL replacement in Turkey from AUD $2,176

Phacoemulsification with IOL implantation

This procedure involves using ultrasound to emulsify the eye's lens, which is then replaced with an artificial intraocular lens.

Pros: Minimally invasive with a small incision, leading to faster recovery. Over 90% success rate in restoring vision clarity.
Cons: May cause temporary visual disturbances like glare or halos. Risk of posterior capsule opacification in 20% of cases.
Effectiveness: 95% success rate in achieving desired visual acuity.
Duration: 30 to 45 minutes.
Recovery: 1 to 2 weeks.
Best for: Individuals with cataracts or refractive errors affecting vision. Suitable for those aged 50 and above.

Is IOL implantation surgery in Turkey painful?

IOL implantation surgery in Turkey is generally painless thanks to local anaesthetic eye drops. Patients might feel slight pressure, but sharp pain during surgery is rare. Most clinics use modern, minimally invasive techniques, leading to quick procedures and comfortable recovery with mild post-op irritation.

  • Anaesthesia type: local anaesthetic eye drops, sometimes mild sedative.
  • Procedure duration: usually under 30 minutes per eye.
  • Techniques: phacoemulsification and multifocal lens implantation common.

Do intraocular lenses (IOLs) implanted in Turkey need to be replaced later?

Intraocular lenses (IOLs) implanted in Turkey are designed to be permanent and usually do not need replacement later. Replacement is rare and only done if complications arise or if there is dissatisfaction with vision. Vision typically stabilises within 3 to 6 months.

  • Lens type: Modern lenses like Alcon PanOptix reduce side effects and the need for replacement.
  • Replacement timing: Easier within the first 3 to 6 months; later exchanges are complex.
  • Complications: Lens dislocation or vaulting may require lens replacement.
  • Touch-ups: Low-cost YAG laser procedures are available instead of full lens replacement.
  • Clinics: JCI-accredited hospitals such as Private Bagcilar Safak Hospital provide safe surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Turkish clinics perform over 20,000 IOL surgeries, with doctors like Prof. Dr. Ahmet Satici having vast experience. Choosing clinics with high surgical volumes and international accreditations helps ensure long-lasting outcomes, reducing replacement chances.

Patient Consensus: Australians report clear communication and smooth organisation at Turkish clinics. Most patients experienced great vision without needing lens replacement, appreciating supportive follow-ups and interpreters during visits.
