How Much Does Flexible ureterorenoscopy (URS) Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Flexible ureterorenoscopy (URS) in Turkey typically costs from AUD $3,567 to AUD $5,708. The final price depends on stone size, laser technology used, and the clinical setting in hubs like Istanbul, Ankara, or Antalya. Patients from Australia save approximately 47% compared to local private costs of AUD $8,847. Packages generally include the surgical procedure, general anaesthesia, a hospital stay, and essential consumables like JJ stents.

  • Stone characteristics: Larger or harder stones may require more theatre time and specialized laser settings.
  • Hospital tier: Leading JCI-accredited facilities in Istanbul often charge 15–20% more than regional clinics.
  • Technology premiums: Advanced Holmium or Thulium lasers for stone fragmentation can increase the base price.
  • Surgical expertise: Highly experienced professors or surgeons with over 900 procedures may command higher fees.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients find exceptional value in Istanbul at hospitals like Hisar Intercontinental. They offer specialized packages starting around A$7,300, overseen by surgeons like Dr Basri Cakiroglu. For complex cases, Memorial Sisli Hospital provides robotic-assisted options. These top-tier clinics maintain JCI accreditation, ensuring safety standards that mirror the Australian private system while avoiding long public waitlists.

I’m glad I chose this team for my care and would absolutely do so again
My biggest worry was the complexity of the procedure itself, especially since it turned out I needed a Vasoepididymostomy. However, the surgeon was very clear and reassuring from the first consultation. That put me at ease. The clinic staff were consistently supportive, and the entire process felt organized and professional. Recovery is a journey, and while there's still some healing to do, I feel like I was in very capable hands. Everything went smoothly. I’m glad I chose this team for my care and would absolutely do so again.

The result is already better than expected
What worried me most was how the final length would turn out, but the result is already better than expected. The team was faultless. My incision for the 3-piece Rigicon implant is healing cleanly, though the most difficult part of recovery has been just trying to sit comfortably. The clinic facility itself is why I gave a lower rating; it’s functional but feels dated. This did not detract from the quality of the medical attention, however. Based on the care from the staff and the surgeon, I would direct others here.
The whole experience overall was great. Dr Bugra Cetin made himself available throughout my time in Istanbul, when he wasn't in surgery, that made my trip easy. The staff at Bookimed addressed all my concerns day and night, with taxi, clinic and still with my recovery while back home. I got with my local Urologist for them to have a look at my surgical area and they were happy with the results so far and said everything looks perfect! Thanks Dr. Cetin and Team!
None, for Bookimed. Anytime I did have any issue with hotel and taxi service, the staff was spot on.

I won’t talk about the way this clinic conducts business, namely that the price starts to rise when you are already there and your passport is with the registrar, all this is nothing, if there was a result, but the result is this - Urology of this institution is completely bottom, here in the bookcomed they praised that you will have a professor, and so, a professor who, as it turned out, specializes in child circumcisions, spent at most three minutes on me when providing tests and descriptions of the disease, and two on the results and treatment prescriptions, well, okay, I think, the professor, he treats in a second, but no, I was treated, the result is zero, just zero. And you understand this: time, money and most importantly health, there are still a lot of moments, but you can close your eyes to all this, if you were cured, if you at least tried to think about it
How can I like something? What a funny questionnaire? I was not cured, what I liked was tea, it would have been a very good teahouse

After I got the address of the doctor needed, I managed to see him, but everyone was surprised by my visit. The doctor was not aware that I was going to meet him, the staff were all surprised. They were not aware of bookmed at all neither did they know the focal person who linked me with the hospital. The doctor told me he would send a preliminary report on the patient. I never got the report. Please let me know what happened? Is it scam or something?

FAQ about Flexible ureterorenoscopy (URS) in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the success rate of flexible ureterorenoscopy for kidney stones in Turkey?

Flexible ureterorenoscopy in Turkey achieves success rates between 85% and 95% for stones under 20 mm. Specialists use Holmium laser lithotripsy within JCI-accredited facilities to fragment or dust stones. Most patients achieve stone-free status in a single theatre session using minimally invasive endoscopic techniques.

  • Stone size impact: Success ranges from 58% to 85% for stones larger than 20 mm.
  • Clinical experience: Leading surgeons like Dr Ozkan Onuk have performed 1,000+ kidney stone surgeries.
  • Specialised equipment: Clinics use flexible scopes and Holmium lasers for precise, retrograde stone destruction.
  • Accredited facilities: Major centres like Memorial Şişli Hospital hold JCI and ISO international certifications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a significant experience gap among providers. While many clinics offer this procedure, those in Istanbul like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental feature experienced surgeons. These doctors have performed 900+ stone crushing procedures. Patients should choose high-volume specialists to increase the likelihood of clearing every fragment in one session.

Patient Consensus: Success in Turkey is generally measured by total stone clearance in one session. Patients suggest asking if the clinic uses basket extraction for fragments or laser dusting techniques.

How does a surgeon's experience impact the outcome of flexible ureterorenoscopy in Turkey?

Surgeon experience in Turkey directly determines stone-free success rates. It also reduces complications during flexible ureterorenoscopy. High-volume specialists like Dr Basri Cakiroglu at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental have performed 900+ procedures. This technical proficiency allows for better management of complex stone sizes and renal abnormalities.

  • Procedural success: Turkish clinical studies involving 1,571 cases report an overall 95.6% success rate.
  • Complication reduction: Experienced operators significantly lower risks related to stone size and renal abnormalities.
  • Single-session clearance: Experts are more likely to clear complex stones in one go.
  • Professional credentials: Leading specialists often hold Fellow of the European Board of Urology (FEBU) titles.
  • Institutional volume: Major JCI-accredited centres in Istanbul serve over 250,000 patients annually.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Case volume is the most reliable quality signal in Turkey. Dr Ozkan Onuk at Medical Park Bahcelievler has performed over 1,000 kidney stone surgeries. This level of repetition helps surgeons master laser dusting and basket extraction. It typically leads to shorter stent dwell times and less post-operative discomfort.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that experienced Turkish surgeons provide clear technical plans for laser use. They appreciate how high-volume operators manage complex anatomy to achieve stone-free results in one session.

Does flexible ureterorenoscopy in Turkey require general anaesthesia?

Flexible ureterorenoscopy in Turkey is almost always performed under general anaesthesia. This keeps the patient completely still while the surgeon uses a thin scope to remove kidney stones. This approach provides comfort and safety during the 1–3 hour procedure at JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul.

  • Standard approach: General anaesthesia keeps the patient fully unconscious and pain-free throughout.
  • Clinical necessity: Total immobility is vital when using lasers for precise stone fragmentation.
  • Alternative options: Spinal anaesthesia or sedation are sometimes used depending on specific clinic protocols.
  • Safe delivery: Qualified anaesthetists manage the process at major centres like Anadolu Medical Center.

Bookimed Expert Insight: General anaesthesia is the norm, but urologists like Dr Ozkan Onuk have performed 1,000+ stone surgeries. This experience helps Turkish specialists tailor anaesthesia plans to patient health and stone density.

Patient Consensus: Patients find being asleep for the procedure makes the experience stress-free and straightforward. Many appreciate that the plan is confirmed in writing before they travel to Turkey.

Is flexible ureterorenoscopy a safe procedure for paediatric patients in Turkey?

Flexible ureterorenoscopy is considered a safe and effective treatment for paediatric kidney stones in Turkey. Procedures achieve stone-free success rates between 82.9% and 95%. Specialist centres use holmium lasers and ultra-thin flexible scopes to navigate smaller paediatric anatomy without incisions.

  • Specialised expertise: Professor Semih Ayyan at Valued Med Hub Hospitals completed paediatric urology training at Harvard.
  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Şişli Hospital was the first in Turkey to earn JCI accreditation for safety.
  • Surgical volume: Experienced surgeons like Dr Basri Cakiroglu have performed over 900 successful procedures.
  • Laser precision: Surgeons use Holmium laser lithotripsy to break stones with minimal impact on surrounding tissue.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centres often combine flexible ureterorenoscopy with retrograde intrarenal lithotripsy (RIRS) for children. This approach provides a higher success rate than traditional shockwave therapy. Centres like Anadolu Medical Center maintain an alliance with Johns Hopkins. This helps ensure paediatric protocols meet strict American safety standards.

Patient Consensus: Families highlight the professional communication and emotional support from patient coordinators in Turkey. They often note that clinics manage complex medical requests quickly while maintaining high empathy.

What is the typical duration of a flexible ureterorenoscopy procedure in Turkey?

A flexible ureterorenoscopy in Turkey typically takes 30 to 90 minutes for routine laser stone removal. The procedure can take up to 3 hours for large or multiple stones. Surgeons at JCI-accredited clinics usually discharge patients on the same day after general anaesthesia.

  • Surgical time: Most surgeons complete standard stone crushing within 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Complex cases: Multiple or hard-to-reach stones can increase theatre time to 180 minutes.
  • Anaesthesia prep: Expect 30 minutes for anaesthesia induction and 60 minutes for initial recovery.
  • Hospital stay: Most patients are monitored for 4–6 hours before same-day discharge.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics specialise in Retrograde Intrarenal Lithotripsy (RIRS). They often pair this with high-powered laser technology. Data shows surgeons like Dr Ozkan Onuk have performed 1,000+ stone surgeries. This high volume often results in efficient theatre times and higher stone-free rates.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey describe the laser and stent procedure as a quick process. They value the short time spent in theatre. They also appreciate the professional support from coordinators during hospital discharge.

What is the expected recovery process following flexible ureterorenoscopy in Turkey?

Recovery following flexible ureterorenoscopy in Turkey is typically rapid. Patients often return to light activities within 2 to 3 days. Most cases are day surgeries or require one overnight stay at JCI-accredited facilities. Full recovery generally takes 7 to 10 days.

  • Stent management: Stents remain for 5–14 days to help the ureter heal after stone removal.
  • Initial downtime: Rest is required for 24–48 hours, though light walking helps prevent blood clots.
  • Activity limits: Avoid lifting over 4.5 kilograms for 14 days to prevent internal irritation.
  • Urinary symptoms: Mild burning or blood in urine is normal for several days post-surgery.
  • Work return: Desk-based work can usually resume within 48 hours for most uncomplicated cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient data shows Turkish clinics often include specialised medications for bladder spasms in recovery kits. This is vital as the ureteral stent often causes the most discomfort. Surgeons like Dr Ozkan Onuk at Medical Park Bahcelievler have performed over 1,000 kidney stone surgeries. This expertise helps ensure precise stent placement that minimises post-operative irritations.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report feeling well enough to walk the same day. They suggest staying near a bathroom during the first week due to increased urinary urgency. Most find pain manageable with provided medications. They also emphasise that hydration is the key to clearing stone fragments quickly.
