How Much Does Coronary bypass surgery Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Coronary bypass surgery in Turkey typically costs from AUD $20,847 to AUD $34,745. Final figures depend on the number of arteries bypassed, surgical technique, and hospital choice in hubs like Istanbul and Antalya. Patients save approximately 45% compared to Australia, where the average price is AUD $50,310. Fees often include diagnostics, ICU care, standard hospitalisation, and airport transfers.

  • Minimally invasive bypass: typically adds a 20–30% premium over traditional open-heart surgical methods.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery: can increase costs by approximately 30–50% due to specialised equipment requirements.
  • Clinical hub variations: packages in Istanbul often cost 15–20% more than in regional cities.
  • Experience-based fees: treatment by a professor with 30+ years of experience may add 10–20%.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing Turkey offers access to top clinical excellence for a fraction of Australian private costs. For instance, Hisar Hospital Intercontinental serves over 250,000 patients annually and holds JCI accreditation. Many leading clinics, such as Biruni University Hospital, have established experience treating Australian patients. Surgeons like Professor Cengiz Koksal have performed over 2,000 open-heart surgeries, providing high-level expertise in complex mitral and aortic reconstructions.

If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day
If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day. My knee feels so much better than it did before the surgery, with much less pain. Of course, recovery isn't instant. The biggest challenge for me right now is some morning stiffness, but once I get moving it improves. The clinic staff and surgeon were professional and answered all my questions about the full replacement, which included the kneecap and a Smith & Nephew implant. I can already bend my knee past 90 degrees easily. It was the right decision.

I honestly cannot thank Dr Murat Yaman enough for the care, kindness, and professionalism he showed me throughout my breast surgery journey
I honestly cannot thank Dr Murat Yaman enough for the care, kindness, and professionalism he showed me throughout my breast surgery journey. I travelled from the UK to have a breast lift with implants ( 450 cc motiva implants under the muscle ), and from the very beginning, Dr Yaman made me feel comfortable, reassured, and confident that I was in safe hands. I am so happy with my results so far and I am truly grateful for his skill, attention to detail, and the beautiful work he has done. Not only is Dr Yaman an incredibly talented surgeon, but he is also a genuinely kind and caring person who made me feel looked after while I was away from home. I also want to say a huge thank you to all the staff who cared for me after my breast lift and implant surgery. Every member of the team was amazing, patient, and supportive throughout my recovery, and their kindness meant so much to me, especially during the early days after such a big procedure. Having surgery abroad was a big decision, and I had many emotions going into it, but I always felt that I was being cared for post surgery. I truly appreciate the hospitality, compassion, and dedication shown by Dr Yaman. I would happily recommend Dr Murat Yaman to anyone considering breast surgery. I am extremely pleased with my experience and my results so far, and I am already planning to return next year for another procedure because of the trust and confidence I have in him and his team. Thank you again for everything — I truly appreciate you all. ❤️
What I liked most about my experience with Dr Murat Yaman and his team was how cared for and comfortable I felt throughout my breast surgery journey. From my consultation, I felt listened to and reassured, and Dr Yaman took the time to understand the results I wanted from my breast lift and implants. I really appreciated his professionalism, kindness, and attention to detail. He made me feel confident in my decision and I felt that I was in safe hands throughout the process. The aftercare and support from the staff were also amazing. Everyone who looked after me after surgery was caring, patient, and supportive, which made such a difference while recovering away from home. Overall, what I liked most was the combination of Dr Yaman’s skill, his caring approach, and the genuine hospitality shown by the whole team. I am very happy with my experience and my results so far.

The surgeon and staff were fantastic
The surgeon and staff were fantastic. I'm in the early phase of healing now; while I’m still slightly tired and my mobility is a bit reduced, I can feel myself getting stronger daily. It’s a steady process. Looking back, my only personal regret is that I wish I knew more Turkish to connect with people directly. That said, the translation provided was great and everything was communicated clearly. The whole process was handled with care.
Dorian was excellent. All the staff were great and made the experience so much more pleasant. Dr Akdimar is the very best physician I have ever seen. He was patient and caring. He helped me deal with a complicated and stressful process. I would recommend both Dr Akdimar and Memorial to my friends and family.
I really ant imagine better are and service.

FAQ about Coronary bypass surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is it safe to have coronary bypass surgery in Turkey?

Coronary bypass surgery in Turkey is safe and follows high international standards. Leading Istanbul hospitals hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. Many maintain affiliations with institutions like Johns Hopkins Medicine. Surgeons frequently perform off-pump and robotic-assisted techniques with success rates mirroring global benchmarks.

  • Accredited facilities: Institutions like Hisar Hospital and Anadolu Medical Center maintain JCI standards.
  • Expert surgeons: Professors like Dr Cengiz Koksal have performed over 2,000+ open-heart procedures.
  • Specialised technology: Centres use da Vinci XI robotic systems and hybrid operating theatres.
  • International training: Specialists often complete fellowships in Germany, Canada, or the United States.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Heart surgery in Turkey offers a distinct safety advantage for complex cases. Large centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental serve 250,000+ patients annually. This volume means medical teams are highly proficient in managing ICU recovery. They also specialise in post-operative monitoring for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Seeking hospitals with dedicated cardiac units and documented ICU capacity is vital. Patients highlight that having a clear follow-up plan for their return to Australia. This plan supports a smooth transition and long-term recovery.

What is the success rate for coronary bypass surgery in Turkey?

Coronary bypass surgery in Turkey maintains success rates between 95% and 98.5%. JCI-accredited facilities achieve these outcomes through protocols like off-pump surgery and robotic-assisted techniques. Leading centres maintain low mortality rates of 0–4% by handling high patient volumes annually.

  • Technological precision: Minimally invasive robotic systems like da Vinci XI report 97% success rates.
  • Clinical benchmarks: Major centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental serve 250,000+ patients every year.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Cengiz Koksal have performed over 2,000+ open-heart procedures.
  • Global standards: Anadolu Medical Center maintains a prestigious affiliation with Johns Hopkins Hospital (USA).

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success rates in Turkey are closely linked to surgeon-specific volume. Professor Emin Tireli has performed 6,300+ cardiac surgeries. Professor Cengiz Koksal has completed 2,000+. Choosing surgeons who personally handle 200+ bypasses annually typically leads to the most reliable outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that outcomes in Turkey depend largely on surgeon skill and individual hospital quality. Many recommend requesting audited complication data. They also suggest having all medical records translated into English for Australian doctors.

What is the difference between on-pump and off-pump coronary bypass surgery in Turkey?

On-pump surgery uses a heart-lung machine to stop the heart. This allows for precise work on complex multi-vessel cases. Off-pump surgery is performed on a beating heart. Turkish hospitals provide both methods. They use hybrid theatres to tailor the approach to the patient's cardiac anatomy.

  • On-pump technique: Uses cardiopulmonary bypass to provide a stable field for complex grafts.
  • Off-pump technique: Performed on a beating heart to avoid potential heart-lung machine complications.
  • Surgical variations: Surgeons also offer MACAB and MIDCAB. These are minimally invasive off-pump versions.
  • Surgical expertise: Leading Turkish professors, such as Dr Cengiz Koksal, have performed 2,000+ heart surgeries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish cardiac centres often use hybrid theatres at clinics like Memorial Göztepe Hospital. This allows surgeons to switch from off-pump to on-pump instantly if needed. This flexibility protects patient safety during complex reconstructions without needing a separate theatre or delay.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find that surgeons explain exactly why they prefer beating-heart or conventional bypass. They often mention feeling reassured by the surgeon's vast experience with both surgical techniques.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for coronary bypass surgery?

Patients should plan for a 10 to 14-day stay in Turkey for coronary bypass surgery. This allows for 5 to 7 days of hospitalisation. Another week of local recovery follows to confirm fitness for a long-haul flight.

  • Hospital stay: Patients spend 5–7 days in hospital, including 1–2 nights in intensive care.
  • Local recovery: An additional 5–7 days in a nearby hotel is required for monitoring.
  • Fitness to fly: Surgical teams must provide clearance before patients board long-haul return flights.
  • Initial recovery: Chest bone healing begins over 6–8 weeks, requiring strict activity limits.
  • Flight preparation: Travel with a companion to help with luggage and transfers is highly recommended.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish cardiac centres often use off-pump or beating-heart techniques. These can lead to faster initial stability. For example, Professor Cengiz Koksal at Medipol Acibadem has performed over 2,000 surgeries. Many use these less invasive methods that help patients reach travel readiness sooner.

Patient Consensus: Planning extra days after discharge is vital for wound checks and pain control. Patients in Turkey suggest booking return flights only after the team confirms travel fitness.

Do doctors and medical staff in Turkey speak English when performing coronary bypass surgery?

Doctors at top Turkish cardiovascular centres generally speak English fluently. This is especially true for specialists performing complex coronary bypass procedures. Many surgeons completed fellowships in Australia, the US, or the UK. Hospitals dedicated to international patients also provide coordinators to translate for nursing and support staff.

  • International training: Specialists like Dr Ilhan Mavioglu trained at London hospitals to achieve high proficiency.
  • Clinical affiliations: Anadolu Medical Center maintains a direct affiliation with Johns Hopkins Hospital for standards.
  • Certified communication: Leading centres hold JCI accreditation, requiring strict protocols for clear patient communication.
  • Dedicated coordinators: Personal interpreters bridge language gaps between patients and ward staff or nurses.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeons often have excellent English, but the skills of ICU and ward nurses can vary. Choosing a university-affiliated hospital, like Biruni University Hospital, often provides more English-speaking junior doctors. These staff members assist throughout the recovery period.

Patient Consensus: Surgeons in Turkey communicate very well in English. However, ward nurses may rely on translation apps or coordinators. Patients recommend requesting all post-operative medication instructions in written English before discharge to avoid confusion at home.
