Cataract surgery with multifocal lens implants in Turkey typically costs from AUD $3,027 to AUD $4,901. The final investment depends on the specific lens brand, the surgeon's experience, and the chosen medical facility. Australian patients save around 35% compared to local private costs of approximately AUD $6,198. Packages generally include pre-operative biometry, surgical fees, the premium lenses, and post-operative follow-up exams.

  • Cataract surgery (both eyes): AUD $1,874 to AUD $3,460 for bilateral treatment.
  • Cataract surgery (one eye): AUD $1,730 to AUD $2,883 for a single eye.

It was a very good experience for us and we are grateful for the treatment provided
It was a very good experience for us, and I will use this service in the future if necessary. All the answers to my questions were given. Everything is very organized. They have their own counter at the airport, where they arranged a transfer for us and brought us comfortably to the hotel. We were accompanied everywhere. The price of the service was as agreed in advance. There were no additional payments. I only spent money on my husband's eye drops at the pharmacy, but they're sold at affordable prices. The hospital is very modern, it's a large complex, there's a university nearby. The hospital has a special department for dealing with foreign clients. We didn't run, we weren't looking for anything, Mustafa was with us all the time and made arrangements for everything himself. There were a few days between the diagnosis and surgery, and we managed to book several tours of Istanbul. It helped us relieve the tension of worrying about the surgery. My husband has an agimatism, he got the best lenses in the world that exist right now. These lenses were made specifically for the parameters of his eye. It's been less than a week since the surgery, but my husband says he can see some things even better than he had with glasses before. The rehabilitation is not over yet, he has to drip eye drops on schedule for a month, take care of eyes, and don't lift heavy things and rub eyes. The doctors have done their job, now a lot depends on how clearly my husband adheres to the doctor's recommendations. It was a very good experience for us and we are grateful for the treatment provided.

Thank you very much and I will recommend this clinic to everyone I know
I was very satisfied with the result of my treatment at the clinic. Everything was done well, starting with the pick-up from the airport, the escort and the very polite attitude towards me. Any of my needs were well met, the translation was clear and the communication with the doctor was very informative. The doctor and his whole team did their job very professionally. I am very impressed and pleased with the outcome. My treatment was very quick, professional and comfortable. Thank you very much and I will recommend this clinic to everyone I know.

I was blown away by how professional and eager to assist the staff were
I had lens replacement and cataract surgery and was blown away by how professional and eager to assist the staff were. It was followed up by Bookimed a week later since Id returned home. They even refunded me some of my original payment even though I hadn't requested it as they found an error on the calculations. I know it's concerning to travel and have operations but from my experience you truly have nothing to worry about. I will definitely look at further surgery via this company and hospital.

And of course, a big thank you to Anastasia, an employee of the Bookimed website ❤️
I am very pleased that I made my choice and trusted the doctor, Professor Abdullah Ozkaya. It was this doctor who inspired confidence at our first meeting, was attentive, and answered all questions clearly and correctly. The clinic did not play any significance for me when choosing. Before that I was in 3 other clinics. But the doctors in those clinics did not inspire confidence in me. I think every person should find their own doctor. And a lot depends on the translator, how correctly he will translate everything. In other clinics, translators were incompetent. And of course, a big thank you to Anastasia, an employee of the Bookimed website ❤️

"Thank you Anastasia from Bookimed
I contacted the clinic via Bookimed.com before arrival and supplied them with my medical reports. They picked me up from the airport and sent me to my hotel. I requested having eye lens laser replacement asap so I can go back home a week after the operation. I arrived at the clinic early morning and was received by Anastasia, a health assistant supporting the patients and helping with the translation. I did all the pre operations test and then met with Dr. Remzi Karadag. He checked my test results and performed more tests, then confirmed my suitability for the operation. I had one eye operated on same day and the other eye the next day. I was issued with eye drops and information on how to look after my eyes during convalescence. A week on, so far so good. I am not using glasses anymore but full restoration of vision will take a month or maybe more. Thank you Anastasia from Bookimed.com and Anastasia and Dr. Remzi from Veni Vedi for the treatment and proffesionality

Our Cataract Surgery with Multifocal Lens Implant Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Cataract Surgery with Multifocal Lens Implant, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Cataract surgery (one eye)

This ophthalmology procedure involves removing the cloudy lens from one eye and replacing it with a clear artificial intraocular lens to restore vision.

Pros: Faster recovery and less post-surgery recovery time compared to bilateral surgery. Reduced risk of complications as only one eye is undergoing surgery at a time.
Cons: Possible vision imbalance if the other eye also has a cataract. May require a second surgery for the other eye if needed.
Effectiveness: 98% success rate in achieving clear vision post-surgery.
Duration: 1-2 hours.
Recovery: 1-2 weeks.
Best for: Individuals with cataracts in one eye or those preferring staged surgeries. Suitable for patients with presbyopia needing vision correction.
Prices: Cost of Cataract surgery (one eye) in Turkey from AUD $1,730

Cataract surgery (both eyes)

This ophthalmology procedure involves replacing the cloudy lenses in both eyes with clear intraocular lenses to restore vision.

Pros: Simultaneous correction of vision in both eyes leads to balanced visual improvement and convenience. 95% of patients report significant vision enhancement post-surgery.
Cons: Longer recovery time compared to single-eye surgery as both eyes need healing. Slightly higher risk of complications due to operating on both eyes at once.
Effectiveness: 98% success rate in achieving clear vision with multifocal lenses.
Duration: 2-3 hours for both eyes.
Recovery: 1-2 weeks for initial recovery.
Best for: Individuals with cataracts in both eyes seeking simultaneous vision correction.
Prices: Cost of Cataract surgery (both eyes) in Turkey from AUD $1,874

FAQ about Cataract Surgery with Multifocal Lens Implant in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are surgeons and clinics in Turkey qualified to perform cataract surgery with multifocal lens implants?

Turkish surgeons and clinics are highly qualified to perform cataract surgery with multifocal lens implants. Many specialists hold international fellowships and have performed over 25,000 procedures. Facilities like the JCI-accredited Associate Professor M. Derda Ozer clinic use premium brands such as Alcon PanOptix and Rayner.

  • Expert surgeons: Prof. Dr. Ahmet Satici has completed 20,000+ surgeries and 94 peer-reviewed publications.
  • Precise technology: Clinics use femtosecond lasers and corneal topography for multifocal lens alignment.
  • Premium implants: Surgeons implant top-tier brands including Alcon PanOptix, Rayner, and TECNIS PurSee lenses.
  • International standards: Major eye centres hold JCI and ISO certifications, meeting global safety benchmarks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows several Turkish surgeons, such as Dr. Muhammet Derda Ozer, have performed over 25,000 procedures each. This massive surgical volume often exceeds what many Australian specialists see in a lifetime. Patients benefit from this repetition, especially with complex premium lens centration.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Istanbul often report seeing better than they did with glasses just days after surgery. They appreciate the organised airport transfers and dedicated international departments that manage every step of the process.

What are the common side effects or risks of multifocal lens implants during cataract surgery in Turkey?

Common side effects of multifocal lens implants in Turkey include night-time halos, glare, and reduced contrast sensitivity. Symptoms are usually manageable through neuroadaptation. Specialists use extensive biometry tests and corneal topography to ensure suitability. These tests help minimise long-term visual disturbances.

  • Visual artefacts: Halos or rings around lights occur naturally with multifocal light-splitting.
  • Contrast sensitivity: Patients may perceive muted colours or reduced clarity in low light.
  • Neuroadaptation period: The brain needs weeks or months to adjust to new focal points.
  • Transient dryness: Irritation and blurred vision are common during the month-long eye-drop regimen.
  • Manageable clouding: Posterior capsule opacification may occur. A simple laser procedure usually resolves this.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many focus on brands like Alcon PanOptix, surgeon volume is the truest safety signal. High-volume specialists in Istanbul, such as Dr Ahmet Satici or Dr Baha Toygar, have performed 20,000 to 30,000+ procedures. This experience is vital for precise lens centration. Correct centration significantly reduces the risk of permanent glare.

Patient Consensus: Many patients in Turkey report seeing halos at night initially. These usually fade as the brain adapts. Following the strict eye-drop schedule is essential for clear vision restoration.

How long is the typical stay in Turkey for cataract surgery with a multifocal lens implant?

Patients typically stay in Turkey for 7 to 8 days for cataract surgery with multifocal lens implants. The surgery takes only 15 minutes per eye. However, clinicians often treat eyes on consecutive days. This timeframe allows for pre-operative testing and a post-operative checkup before flying home.

  • Hospitalisation: Most patients undergo outpatient surgery with same-day discharge or a 1-day hospital stay.
  • Treatment sequence: Surgeons usually operate on the second eye 1 to 2 days after the first.
  • Diagnostic window: Pre-op tests like corneal topography and biometry occur on arrival for lens precision.
  • Travel readiness: Specialists typically clear patients for international flights 3 to 5 days after the final surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic packages offer 3 days of accommodation. These are best suited for single-eye procedures. Patients treating both eyes should opt for 5 to 7-day packages, such as those at VM Medical Park. This allows for the 48-hour gap between surgeries and a final checkup.

Patient Consensus: Travellers in Turkey appreciate that surgeries are quick. Clinics also regularly organise airport transfers and hotel stays. Most feel comfortable flying home within a week once they receive their post-operative eye drops.

What types of multifocal lenses are used by clinics in Turkey for cataract surgery?

Turkish clinics primarily use trifocal lenses and Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) implants to restore vision at multiple distances. Surgeons commonly fit Alcon PanOptix, Rayner, and Tecnis PurSee brands during cataract surgery. These are also used in refractive lens exchange to reduce dependence on glasses.

  • Trifocal lenses: These provide clear vision at near, intermediate, and far distances for daily tasks.
  • EDOF implants: These offer an extended vision range with fewer night-time halos than traditional multifocal options.
  • Toric variants: These correct pre-existing astigmatism while treating cataracts with multifocal optics.
  • Brand selection: Specialists use global brands like Alcon PanOptix, Rayner, and German Liberty trifocal systems.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Trifocal lenses are the most requested. However, surgeons with 25,000+ procedures often recommend EDOF lenses for patients who drive frequently at night. Some clinics, such as Associate Professor M. Derda Ozer's practice, offer both to match the patient's lifestyle.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate receiving lenses customised to their eye parameters. They also value having everything organised from the moment they arrive at the airport. Many report seeing better than they did with glasses within a week.

Is cataract surgery with a multifocal lens implant in Turkey painful, and how long does the operation take?

Cataract surgery with a multifocal lens implant in Turkey is generally painless. Specialists use local anaesthetic drops to numb the eye. Patients typically feel only mild pressure during the procedure. The operation is fast, usually taking 15 to 30 minutes per eye.

  • Pain management: Local anaesthetic drops allow the surgery to proceed without significant pain.
  • Surgery duration: The active surgical phase typically lasts 15 minutes per eye at major clinics.
  • Technique: Surgeons use phacoemulsification or femtosecond lasers to replace cloudy lenses with multifocal implants.
  • Clinic stay: Patients usually remain at the facility for 1 day for observation and testing.
  • Recovery speed: Many patients report improved vision within 24 hours, though full settling takes weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish specialists like Dr Baha Toygar or Prof Dr Ahmet Satici have performed 20,000+ to 30,000+ surgeries each. This high volume means they have handled virtually every eye shape and lens requirement imaginable. Patients should confirm if both eyes will be treated on the same day or 24 hours apart. Some clinics prefer the latter for safety.

Patient Consensus: The surgery feels unusual rather than painful, and most patients in Turkey return home without needing glasses. Everything is well organised from the airport pickup. Following the month-long eye-drop schedule and avoiding heavy lifting is vital for the best results.

What is the primary benefit of choosing a multifocal lens implant in Turkey?

The primary benefit of choosing a multifocal lens implant in Turkey is achieving spectacle independence. These intraocular lenses (IOLs) restore clear vision at near, intermediate, and far distances. This often eliminates the need for reading glasses or bifocals after cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery.

  • Visual range: Provides clear focus for driving, computer work, and reading without glasses.
  • Premium brands: Clinics use top-tier IOLs including Alcon PanOptix, TECNIS, and RAYNER Trifocal.
  • Expert surgeons: Surgeons like Professor Ahmet Satici have performed over 20,000 surgical cases.
  • Rapid recovery: Many patients report significant functional visual improvements within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Full-service packages: Packages often include 5-star accommodation, VIP transfers, and post-operative medications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Multifocal lenses are popular, yet Bookimed data shows a growing trend toward Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) lenses. These include lenses like TECNIS PurSee. They often provide a smooth transition between distances. They may also reduce the halos sometimes reported with traditional trifocal designs.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report the immediate joy of reading their phones the next day. They appreciate the professional airport transfers and the organised care that makes the surgery feel like a holiday.

Is a multifocal lens implant in Turkey a permanent solution?

A multifocal lens implant in Turkey is a permanent vision solution. Surgeons replace the natural lens with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) designed to last a lifetime. These premium implants, including trifocal and EDOF options, do not age or develop cataracts. This leads to stable vision results indefinitely.

  • Lifetime durability: Artificial lenses such as Alcon PanOptix or Rayner use non-degradable biocompatible materials.
  • Cataract prevention: Removing the natural lens prevents future cataracts in the treated eye.
  • Surgical exchange: Surgeons can technically replace lenses if a patient cannot tolerate specific optics.
  • Stable correction: Results generally remain constant unless other age-related conditions, like glaucoma or macular degeneration, develop.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume Turkish surgeons often suggest trifocal lenses over standard multifocals for better intermediate vision. Dr. Ahmet Satici has performed 20,000+ surgeries. He uses these to reduce the need for computer glasses. This distinction is vital for patients seeking a lifelong alternative to bifocals.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report seeing better than they did with glasses within one week. They suggest following the month-long eye drop schedule strictly. Patients should also avoid heavy lifting so the lens settles perfectly for the long term.
