I am delighted with their work
Thank you for everything being fine. Of course there were cons, but in general everything was fine. I really liked it, the meeting was organized, Medipol worked harmoniously. The managers from the clinic helped completely. There is a room with three meals a day, the room is clean, they did not require additional payment. The clinic is very specialized, individual approach to each patient, polite and attentive. Many thanks also to Dmitry and the coordinators in the clinic. Irada, Ainur, Timur, Iran many thanks to each of them for their help with any question and help at any time of the day. In general, I liked everything very much and the quality of work, they move as a single mechanism. Thank you, I am delighted with their work.

"All your work is very harmonious, everything is available
Good afternoon. Thank you very much for the help! All your work is very harmonious, everything is available. True, everything is at the highest level: 1. Your work with Victoria is lovely. To withstand all our questions (often repeated) and with angelic patience to answer them is a talent! 2. Suleiman - well done! all coordinate, organize in Istanbul. It is simply brilliant! 3. Girls translators are very polite, attentive. Thanks to them separately, they were our "language" in the clinic. Sofia's parents also thank the doctor (unfortunately, I did not see her). The doctor did take a careful look at Sofia, explained everything in detail, explained why PET / CT should not be done in this case, told in all nuances, Sofia's parents were pleasantly surprised by the approach to the work of this specialist.

The stay in the clinic left only positive emotions. On the organization's questions, if they were before the arrival at the clinic, then after the arrival the questions disappeared by themselves, everything was organized perfectly, any wishes were fulfilled. The doctor took it immediately on the day of arrival, everything that was planned was appointed, answered all questions immediately and before and after treatment, left a positive impression. Umnichka translators, it was possible to contact them at almost any time, they always helped. I lived in a guest house, everything is fine. Satisfied with the service

My sister and I were met at the airport, brought to the apartment of the clinic, I note the apartment is very cozy and comfortable with everything you need, the payment is sufficient for any person
I am generally pleased with the clinic and the work of the coordinator. My sister and I were met at the airport, brought to the apartment of the clinic, I note the apartment is very cozy and comfortable with everything you need, the payment is sufficient for any person. She was given chemotherapy, we will see the results later (only 2 weeks have passed). As for me and my examination at the gynecologist, fibroids and uterine pubescence, they said they urgently need to be operated on for a small amount, while the second opinion was not confirmed in another country, which means the gynecologist is not as qualified and the impression of the doctor is just to do the surgery would get the money I did not like.

Expert Overview about Thyroid cancer Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is thyroid cancer treatment in Turkey reliable and safe for Australian patients?

Thyroid cancer treatment in Turkey is safe and reliable for Australians. Leading centres maintain JCI accreditation and partner with institutions like Johns Hopkins Medicine. Specialists perform endocrine surgeries and radioiodine therapy. Treatment protocols follow international oncology standards, offering immediate access without waiting times.

  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Şişli and Anadolu Medical Center hold JCI accreditation for safety.
  • Expert surgeons: Prof. Adnan Isgor and Dr. Kemal Rasa each have over 20 years' experience.
  • Diagnostic tools: Clinics use Digital PET-CT and 512-slice CT for precise staging.
  • Nuclear medicine: Radioiodine therapy packages start from A$4,600 at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental.
  • Specialist expertise: Dr. Nuri Alper Sahbaz has performed more than 2,000 endocrine surgeries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients search for the lowest price. However, the highest satisfaction scores often align with clinics like Anadolu Medical Center. Their direct affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine provides Australian patients with Western-standard protocols. Cases requiring complex neck lymph node dissection benefit from their surgical teams. These teams routinely conduct histopathology revisions of original biopsies.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the balance between medical care and logistics in Turkey. They value the coordination of personal interpreters and airport transfers. Most also appreciate the detailed explanations provided by specialists during consultations in Istanbul.

What are the standard treatment options for thyroid cancer in Turkey?

Standard thyroid cancer treatments in Turkey include total or partial thyroidectomy, radioactive iodine therapy, and specialised radiation techniques. Many centres use robotic systems like the da Vinci XI for minimally invasive surgery. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul provide multi-specialty care involving nuclear medicine and endocrine surgery specialists.

  • Surgical options: Procedures include total bilateral thyroidectomy, unilateral partial removal, or completion surgery if original resection was incomplete.
  • Nuclear medicine: High-dose radioactive iodine (I-131) therapy is used to destroy remaining cancer cells.
  • Specialised radiation: Clinics use platforms like Halcyon, CyberKnife, and MR Linac for precise tumour targeting.
  • Robotic surgery: Surgeons use the da Vinci system to perform resections through smaller incisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centres like Anadolu Medical Center operate in affiliation with major institutions such as Johns Hopkins. This gives patients access to multidisciplinary tumour boards and clinicians like Prof. Kezban Berberoglu. She completed nuclear medicine training at Johns Hopkins. These teams often include specialists with experience in over 2,000 endocrine surgeries. This experience is critical for reducing risks to the parathyroid glands and vocal cords.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report a high level of support from personal coordinators and interpreters. They appreciate the comprehensive preoperative testing. They also find the full-board hospital accommodation helps reduce the stress of managing logistics during recovery.

What is the typical duration of stay in Turkey for thyroid cancer surgery?

Patients typically stay in Turkey for 7 days for thyroid cancer surgery. This timeframe allows for preoperative tests and the procedure. It also includes 1 to 3 days of hospital recovery. Surgeons like Dr Kemal Rasa at Anadolu Medical Center check that patients are travel-ready before discharge.

  • Hospitalisation period: Most surgical plans include 1 to 3 nights of monitored hospital recovery.
  • Clinical stay: Lokman Hekim Akay Hospital packages typically combine hospital nights with hotel recovery.
  • Total trip: Patients stay around 7 days to complete follow-up checks and clear travel.
  • Pathology waiting: Diagnostic results or pathology reviews can extend the stay by several days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgery requires 1 week, but logistical coordination determines the actual stay. For complex cases involving lymph node dissection, Anadolu Medical Center provides faster processing. This is possible via its Johns Hopkins affiliation. This can reduce diagnostic wait times even for specialised procedures costing around A$23,100.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey suggest budgeting 10 to 14 days. This avoids rushing through pathology results and follow-up examinations. Many find that pre-arranged transfers and accommodation provided by clinics like Medipol Mega make recovery much smoother.

What should I expect regarding recovery and follow-up care after thyroid cancer treatment in Turkey?

Patients should expect a 1–3 day hospital stay. They then spend 7–10 days in Turkey for initial wound checks. Specialised clinics provide hormone replacement monitoring and scans. International departments often coordinate remote care with Australian GPs for continuity.

  • Hospital stay: Most patients stay in hospital for 1–3 days after a thyroidectomy.
  • Initial recovery: Suture removal and wound checks typically occur 7–10 days after surgery.
  • Hormone therapy: Long-term medication management starts immediately. It requires regular blood tests for dose adjustment.
  • Follow-up visits: Some packages, such as at Lokman Hekim Akay, include specific follow-up examinations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center provide histopathology revisions within their surgical packages. This helps Australians. It allows local pathology labs to verify Turkish results. This simplifies the transition to local oncology follow-up when back home.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey highlight the importance of coordinated transfers and clean, full-board accommodation. Many emphasise that translators and coordinators make managing post-operative appointments much smoother.

Will I require an interpreter for my thyroid cancer treatment in Turkey?

Most JCI-accredited Turkish hospitals provide free medical interpreters for thyroid cancer treatment. Major centres include these specialists in international patient packages. Professional interpreters assist with surgical consent, pathology results, and radioiodine therapy instructions. This supports clear communication during complex oncology consultations.

  • Package inclusion: Many clinics, such as Lokman Hekim Akay Hospital, list language assistance as a standard service.
  • Clinical accuracy: Interpreters explain technical terms during biopsies. They also assist during consultations with nuclear medicine specialists like Dr Kezban Berberoglu.
  • Staff communication: Interpreters bridge gaps with nurses and anaesthetists who may not speak fluent English.
  • Document translation: Centres often translate pathology and imaging reports into English or Turkish for doctor reviews.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Language support extends beyond the doctor's office in Turkey's top oncology hubs. Specialists at Anadolu Medical Center often have international training. However, ward staff and technicians may not. Choosing a package with a personal coordinator provides support during recovery and overnight stays.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that polite, attentive translators act as their 'voice' in Turkish clinics. They explain everything from PET/CT nuances to surgery prep. Patients suggest confirming the interpreter's availability for discharge and medication schedules before travelling.
