Thank you Bookimed for your help!
I ended my stay at the Nobel Turkey clinic. I am pleased that I took Nobel, a place very interesting and valuable with thermal waters. Regarding the clinic, I give a rating of Five, very good attitude of the staff, specialists-trainers are assigned to patients, the procedures are satisfying and thoughtful, I think that there clinic at the level, accommodation and meals as in 5 star hotels, I think that it would be more effective if there was also drug treatment. Expert Overview about Muscular Dystrophy Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is there a cure for Muscular Dystrophy in Turkey?

Muscular dystrophy has no known cure in Turkey or elsewhere. Turkish specialists focus on slowing disease progression and improving mobility. Leading centres provide specialised diagnostics, stem cell therapy, and genetic management. These treatments aim to preserve muscle function and enhance the patient's daily quality of life.

  • Diagnostic precision: Specialists use Brain MRI and video-EEG monitoring to create tailored management plans.
  • Expert care: Dr Siar Dursun at Medipol University Pendik Hospital specialises in neurodegenerative disorders.
  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Şişli Hospital and Liv Hospital Ulus maintain JCI standards for safety.
  • Specialised rehabilitation: Nobel Medical Center offers aquatic therapy and natural thermal water treatments in Pamukkale.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish university hospitals like Medipol serve 350,000+ patients annually. This gives their neurologists vast experience with rare MD variants. Our data shows patients choose these centres for specific diagnostics like whole exome sequencing. This helps identify the exact genetic mutation when local tests back home are inconclusive.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey value the thoughtful rehabilitation at centres like Nobel. There, thermal waters and dedicated physical trainers aid mobility. Families note that there is no miracle cure. However, thorough diagnostics and protein-rich diets help manage muscle mass.

What treatment options are available for muscular dystrophy in Turkey?

Muscular dystrophy treatment in Turkey focuses on genetic diagnostics and symptom management strategies. Major JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul provide genetic mapping and specialised rehabilitation. While no cure exists, doctors manage the condition through respiratory support, intensive physical therapy, and targeted medications to maintain mobility.

  • Genetic diagnostics: Memorial Şişli offers whole exome sequencing to identify specific muscular dystrophy mutations.
  • Childhood neurology: Specialist Dr Siar Dursun provides neurological assessments using video-EEG and brain MRI.
  • Robotic rehabilitation: Centres like Memorial Göztepe use technologies to improve strength and daily functioning.
  • Multidisciplinary care: JCI-accredited facilities combine neurology, orthopaedics, and genetics for personalised management plans.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish university hospitals like Medipol Pendik handle over 350,000 patients annually. This high volume allows specialists like Dr Siar Dursun to focus on rare neuromuscular disorders. Their deep experience with complex spinal muscular atrophy and dystrophy cases often leads to more precise longitudinal management plans.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the genetic testing at centres like Unihealth for clear diagnosis. They appreciate the attentive staff and high-quality accommodation at Nobel Medical, especially the effective thermal water therapies. Managing muscle mass through high protein intake and specialised exercise is frequently recommended for better daily living.

Does Turkey offer stem cell treatment for muscular dystrophy?

Turkey provides stem cell treatment for muscular dystrophy at specialised centres. Specialists use allogeneic umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells and exosome therapy. These procedures aim to reduce inflammation and support tissue repair. Clinics like Liv Hospital Ulus offer GMP-standard cellular therapies for international patients.

  • Specialist expertise: Dr Siar Dursun at Medipol University Pendik Hospital treats rare neurodegenerative disorders and muscular dystrophy.
  • Clinical standards: Major centres such as Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Medical Park hold JCI accreditation for safety.
  • Integrated rehabilitation: Nobel Medical Centre provides thermal water therapy and neurological rehabilitation to support muscle function.
  • Diagnostics: Clinics use 3 Tesla MRI and genetic testing to monitor treatment progress and muscle health.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many centres treat general neurodegenerative cases, patients should prioritise university-affiliated hospitals like Medipol or Liv Hospital. These facilities handle over 300,000 cases annually and maintain on-site laboratories for GMP-standard stem cell production. This means the fresh cells used in injections meet strict international quality benchmarks for potency.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the high standard of care and professional staff at Turkish rehabilitation centres. Many note that combining medical procedures with intensive physiotherapy and thermal water treatments improves their overall comfort and mobility.

Can I get exon skipping medication for muscular dystrophy in Turkey?

Patients can access certain exon skipping medications in Turkey for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Access depends on specific genetic mutations. Drugs like Eteplirsen and Ataluren are recognised for payment by the Turkish Ministry of Health. Eligible patients can access them under specific clinical guidelines.

  • Genetic eligibility: Patients require genetic testing to confirm mutations like Exon 51, 53, or 45.
  • Approved therapies: Eteplirsen (Exondys 51) is recognised for eligible patients with the Exon 51 mutation.
  • Clinical research: Memorial Göztepe Hospital features a dedicated clinical research unit for global treatment innovations.
  • Specialist expertise: Dr Siar Dursun at Medipol University Pendik Hospital specialises in managing muscular dystrophy cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many countries have strict age limits for expensive gene-related therapies, Turkish specialists often focus on physical criteria. University-affiliated centres like Medipol handle 350,000+ patients annually. This high volume means their neurologists often have more practical experience managing rare DMD mutations than smaller regional clinics.

Patient Consensus: Families note that while medication access is possible, combining it with intensive physical therapy is vital. Patients at centres like Nobel report that thermal water therapy and professional trainers in Turkey help maintain muscle mobility. This support is significant during drug treatment.

Patient Consensus: Visitors to Turkey note that facilities often feel like five-star hotels. Thoughtful specialists are assigned to individual cases. Many emphasise that a precise genetic diagnosis is the first vital step. This diagnosis should come before starting any therapy.
