There is now hope that it will be possible to help her in the future
I am grateful to our translator Irina, who arranged an additional consultation with an ophthalmologist, and we received another opinion regarding my sister's vision. There is now hope that it will be possible to help her in the future. I hope that there will be new discoveries in the field of ophthalmology.
My sister had consultations with a maxillofacial surgeon and an ophthalmologist, and underwent examinations. We need time to monitor her condition and changes in her vision in order to choose the best option for her situation.

Her and her team were fantastic
I had initially gone to Turkey to consult with a dental clinic there. The initial clinic consultation went a direction that didn't want to go to meet my needs. Bookimed was able to quickly arrange more consultations with other clinics and Bahcelievler Memorial Hospital. I really liked the dental staff and the vision/action plan proposed by Bahcelievler. I quickly decided that they were the best option of all my consultations there in-country. Due to the severity of my dental needs, the Chief of Dentistry (Dr. Esma Sonmez) personally took my case. Her and her team were fantastic. She highly recommended the oral surgeon, part of the hospital, Dr. Celal Gondirll. I highly recommend both of them. Mr. Gondirll communicated clearly the game plan, successfully followed through with a well-performed surgery, and was available for after-care. I needed 24 crowns, with temporaries installed prior to the jaw surgery, and permanents installed post-surgery. Dr Sonmez performed all the crowns herself. In all, everything went very well. My hospital medical coordinators, Ms. Rose and Mr. Masoud, did a great job of coordinating the activities, hospital stay, hotel stay, and shuttle services. It has only been about a week and a half post-surgery, but I am very pleased with the results. I'm sure things will only improve more as the swelling subsides in the coming weeks. None of it would have been possible without my Bookimed coordinator, Winnington, quickly pivoting after my initial consultation going south and arranging the consultation with the hospital. An additional point to mention is that Bahcelievler Memorial Hospital was able to perform all the needed services at a significantly cheaper price. Dr. Sonmez is also very conservative in her approach to dental care and was able to successfully avoid 12 root canals that my initial dental clinic consultations had deemed "required." I would strongly suggest adding a consultation with the hospital prior to finalizing any action plan. Thank you!
The hospital team: Dr. Esma Sonmez and Dr. Gondirll.
There was some confusion and anxiety at times about shuttle arrangements. Everything worked out pretty well, though.
About Bookimed service
I would definitely recommend Bookimed for all international medical coordination needs.

You change people's lives for the better, you are like guardian angels sent into our lives
My wife will have the operation maxillofacial , Doctor Celal is a professional, we talked and he told me that everything will be fine and we won't have any problems. I have no words to thank you for what your team did for my wife. You change people's lives for the better, you are like guardian angels sent into our lives. But that's what it says in the Bible, knock and it will open, search and you will find. Know that money is not the most important thing in life, but to help each other as people. May God keep you healthy, and know that God blessed you to have such a valuable team. I believe and this is my personal opinion that you have secured a place in heaven in the kingdom of God. Once again God shows me that he loves me and takes care of my family through you, the BOOKIMED TEAM AMIN team.

FAQ about Maxillofacial Surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How do I choose a safe and reliable clinic for maxillofacial surgery in Turkey?

Choosing a reliable maxillofacial clinic in Turkey involves verifying JCI accreditation and the surgeon's specialised PhD credentials. Top facilities like Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital integrate 3D imaging with multidisciplinary teams. This allows precise planning for complex jaw reconstructions and orthognathic surgery.

  • Hospital accreditation: Leading centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental hold JCI certification for international safety.
  • Surgeon credentials: Verify specialists like Dr Abdulsamet Kundakcioglu, who holds a PhD in maxillofacial surgery.
  • Specialised technology: Safe clinics use 3D CBCT imaging and CAD/CAM labs for precise surgical planning.
  • Academic affiliation: University-linked centres, such as Bahçeşehir University Dental Hospital, follow rigorous academic medical protocols.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that the most successful maxillofacial outcomes in Turkey occur in multi-specialty hospitals rather than solo dental clinics. Facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital provide immediate access to intensive care and anaesthetists. This infrastructure is vital for complex procedures like orthognathic surgery, where hospital-grade support improves patient safety.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey note that having a dedicated translator and a surgeon who communicates the surgical plan clearly makes a massive difference. They also highlight the benefit of choosing hospitals that bundle airport transfers and aftercare support into a single package.

What should I do if I have complications after returning home from maxillofacial surgery in Turkey?

Contact your Turkish clinic straight away using their emergency numbers. Most major centres provide 24/7 on-call support. Seek urgent local care at an emergency department or GP if you have trouble breathing, heavy bleeding, or a high fever. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul have established care pathways for managing postoperative issues remotely.

  • Clinic contact: Use provided emergency numbers for immediate guidance from your surgical team.
  • Local emergency: Visit a hospital for persistent bleeding or signs of severe infection.
  • Avoid self-treatment: Do not remove stitches or adjust hardware without specific surgical advice.
  • Follow-up support: Some clinics, like Dr. MED, offer one year of aftercare support.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics with high international volumes often employ dedicated translators and coordinators. One example is Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, which treats 250,000 patients annually. These staff members act as your lifeline back home. A personal coordinator from a JCI-accredited facility typically means a faster response when you report unexpected swelling or pain. This compares favourably to smaller, non-accredited dental offices.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey suggest confirming warranty and complication policies before leaving. They also recommend finding a local surgeon who can provide physical checkups once home. They note that clear communication from hospital coordinators, like those in Istanbul, makes managing the recovery process much easier.

What should I ask my maxillofacial surgeon in Turkey during a consultation?

Consultations with Turkish maxillofacial surgeons usually include a clinical exam and a 3D skull scan to map jaw alignment. Ask about hospital accreditations like JCI and their specific experience with orthognathic or reconstructive procedures. Check if the team provides in-house interpreters and 12 months of follow-up support.

  • Surgical expertise: Ask about the surgeon's specific training at institutions like the Mayo Clinic.
  • Facility standards: Check the hospital holds JCI accreditation and uses 640-slice CT scanners.
  • Package inclusions: Check if the price covers anaesthesia, hospital stays, and medication costs.
  • Recovery logistics: Ask how long to stay in Turkey for initial healing before flying.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows that leading clinics like Memorial Bahçelievler often avoid unnecessary root canals through conservative planning. Patients should request a consultation with the hospital's chief surgeon. High-volume centres can sometimes offer lower prices by managing all diagnostics and theatre services in-house.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey suggest getting multiple opinions. They also advise checking that the surgical plan addresses both jaw function and aesthetics. They found clear communication from coordinators about transfers and hotel stays made recovery much smoother.

Are online reviews for maxillofacial surgery clinics in Turkey trustworthy?

Online reviews for Turkish maxillofacial clinics are generally trustworthy. They are most reliable when verified through independent platforms and clinical accreditations. Reputable facilities like Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital and Hisar Hospital Intercontinental maintain JCI accreditation. This ensures their reported outcomes and patient feedback meet rigorous international safety and transparency standards.

  • Independent validation: Platforms like Bookimed verify reviews from real patients who actually underwent surgery.
  • Clinical credentials: Trustworthy clinics often hold ISO 9001 or JCI certifications for quality management.
  • Surgeon transparency: Reliable reviews frequently name specific surgeons, such as Dr Celal Gondirll, for accountability.
  • Entity verification: Top clinics are official providers for global brands like Straumann or Nobel Biocare.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that clinics with high ratings often have 90+ specialists across various departments. Lokman Hekim Istanbul Hospital is one such clinic. This internal scale means maxillofacial surgeons work alongside anaesthetists and radiologists in-house. Patients should prioritise these hospital-based settings over small boutique clinics. Larger institutions have the infrastructure to back up their success claims.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find it helpful to consult multiple specialists. This helps them compare treatment plans and surgical visions. They note that personal medical coordinators and professional translators are helpful. Recovery and aftercare then feel secure and well-managed.

Why is Turkey a popular destination for maxillofacial surgery?

Turkey is a leading centre for maxillofacial surgery due to its JCI-accredited hospitals and highly specialised surgical teams. The country offers corrective jaw surgery and complex facial reconstruction using digital 3D imaging. These procedures cost between _price_from_ and _price_to_, significantly less than private Australian healthcare.

  • Surgical expertise: Specialists like Dr. Selcuk Basa have 40+ years of experience in complex facial reconstruction.
  • Accredited facilities: Major centres like Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.
  • Technology: Clinics use CAD/CAM units and computer-guided systems for precise implant placement.
  • Integrated care: Hospitals often bundle surgery, anaesthesia, and recovery support into a single plan.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that Istanbul’s top-tier university-affiliated hospitals offer 183 specialised units. Bahçeşehir University Dental Hospital is one example. These massive facilities provide on-site general anaesthesia rooms and multidisciplinary teams. This allows patients to undergo complex jaw surgery and restorative dental work under one roof. It reduces total travel time.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that Turkish surgeons often suggest conservative approaches to save natural teeth. They also offer clear, professional action plans. The availability of translators and airport shuttles makes navigating the country feel seamless. It also provides a supportive experience for families.

What types of procedures are included in maxillofacial surgery in Turkey?

Maxillofacial surgery in Turkey includes orthognathic surgery to correct misaligned jaws, mandibular osteotomies, and sliding genioplasty. Specialists also perform reconstructive procedures for cleft lips and jaw cyst treatments. They also place advanced dental implants. These surgeries resolve functional issues like sleep apnoea while enhancing facial aesthetics.

  • Jaw correction: Orthognathic surgery repositions misaligned jaws to fix crossbites or functional speech issues.
  • Chin reconstruction: Sliding genioplasty adjusts chin position, often performed alongside double jaw surgery.
  • Advanced implants: Zygomatic and All-on-4 implants provide solutions for patients with significant bone loss.
  • Soft tissue repair: Surgeons perform cleft lip and palate repair and maxillofacial reconstruction after trauma.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Our data shows clinicians at specialised centres use original Swiss Straumann materials. Dentavie Istanbul is one such centre. They use these for complex cases. This quality assurance is vital for Australians accustomed to high medical standards. These facilities often combine maxillofacial work with Digital Smile Design. This helps functional changes also achieve aesthetic goals.

Patient Consensus: Patients highlight that Turkish surgeons often manage complex needs during a single travel period. This includes combining 24 crowns with jaw surgery. Visitors appreciate the detailed action plans. They also appreciate the presence of professional translators in Istanbul clinics.

How can I prepare for maxillofacial surgery in Turkey?

Preparing for maxillofacial surgery in Turkey requires securing detailed imaging. This includes a mandible CT or skull scan. Patients must also choose JCI-accredited hospitals. Patients must arrange orthodontic alignment if undergoing orthognathic surgery and should budget for diagnostic revisions. Successful preparation involves virtual planning with specialists to confirm surgical techniques.

  • Imaging records: Patients should provide recent CT scans or periapical X-rays before travelling for precision planning.
  • Surgical expertise: Patients should select surgeons with international training, like Prof. Dr. Selcuk Basa with 40+ years' experience.
  • Accreditation check: Patients should prioritise facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital, the first JCI-accredited hospital in Turkey.
  • Support services: Patients should choose clinics offering free interpreters and airport transfers to simplify the recovery process.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that hospital-based dental units often provide more conservative and integrated care than boutique clinics. This includes units at Memorial Bahçelievler. These facilities have on-site oral surgeons and 3D imaging. This allows them to handle complex jaw reconstructions and crowns in one location. This integration frequently reduces the need for additional procedures like root canals.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that having a coordinator is vital when initial plans change. This coordinator can pivot and arrange quick second opinions. In Turkey, travellers appreciate when hospitals bundle hotel stays and shuttle services. This makes the intensive post-surgical week much easier to manage.
