How Much Does Osteoplasty Cost in Thailand in AUD?

Osteoplasty in Thailand typically costs from AUD $1,306 / ฿A44,389 to AUD $2,321 / ฿A78,913. The final price depends on the specific surgical technique, the anaesthetic used, and the clinic category. Patients save around 48% by travelling to Thailand from Australia, where this procedure costs AUD $3,627 / ฿A123,302 on average. These surgical costs usually cover the surgeon fee, local anaesthesia, and initial post-operative care.

  • Surgical complexity: Revision procedures or reconstruction following trauma typically cost more than standard aesthetic adjustments.
  • Anaesthetic choice: Opting for general anaesthesia instead of local sedation can increase the total cost significantly.
  • Facility location: Clinics in major medical hubs like Bangkok and Phuket often have slightly higher price points.
  • Hospital tier: Luxury facilities may charge approximately 20% more for premium patient suites and enhanced amenities.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients can find exceptional value by choosing dental specialists with international training. For example, Dr. Pawak Tungthangthum in Chiang Mai completed advanced implantology programs in the USA. Clinics like SOL Dental in Bangkok are official partners of global leaders like Dentsply Sirona. Selecting doctors with memberships in the American Dental Association (ADA) provides additional quality assurance for complex bone procedures.

What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Osteoplasty in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the risks of flying immediately after osteoplasty in Thailand?

Flying immediately after osteoplasty in Thailand increases risks of deep vein thrombosis, severe facial swelling, and wound separation. Cabin pressure fluctuations cause gases and tissues to expand. This often results in intense pain and throbbing at the surgical site. Most surgeons recommend staying in Thailand for 10–14 days before flying home.

  • Pressure changes: Expanding fluids during flight cause swelling, especially in jaw or brow procedures.
  • Blood clots: Post-operative inflammation and long-haul immobility significantly increase the risk of DVT.
  • Tissue health: Lower cabin oxygen levels can slow healing or cause localised tissue death.
  • Boarding denial: Airlines may refuse travel if patients have visible facial wrapping or distress.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The flight is a risk, but major hubs like Suvarnabhumi Airport also cause physical strain. Navigating large terminals can reopen newly sealed blood vessels and trigger bleeding. Planning a 10-day stay lets the surgeon monitor peak swelling before departure.

Patient Consensus: Manage risks by waiting for medical clearance rather than following a fixed timeline. Patients suggest discussing clot prevention and swelling control with the Thai surgical team before the flight.

Are surgeons in Thailand qualified to perform advanced osteoplasty?

Qualified surgeons in Thailand are highly trained to perform osteoplasty. This includes complex maxillofacial and orthopaedic bone reconstruction. Many specialists hold fellowships from prestigious institutions in the United States and Europe. Leading clinics like Bangkok Dental Hospital maintain ISO 9001:2000 certification for international safety standards.

  • Rigorous training: Specialists complete up to 8 years of postgraduate surgical training and exams.
  • Board certification: Qualified doctors are Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand.
  • International experience: Surgeons like Dr Pawak Tungthangthum have completed implantology training in America.
  • Hospital infrastructure: Major centres use 3D CT scans and negative pressure rooms for safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data suggests Australian patients often choose Bangkok for bone procedures. This is often due to the presence of American-trained specialists. Dr Pawak Tungthangthum at Kitcha Dental Clinic completed a preceptorship at the University of California. This international cross-training helps techniques like Zygoma and NobelPerfect implants meet global benchmarks.

Patient Consensus: Thailand offers highly skilled surgeons. Visitors should still verify credentials directly with the Medical Council. Patients suggest choosing major accredited hospitals in Bangkok for consistent standards and better post-operative support.

How long do I need to remain in Thailand following osteoplasty?

Patients should plan to stay in Thailand for 10 to 14 days after an osteoplasty. This allows time for incision monitoring, stitch removal, and obtaining a mandatory Fit to Fly certificate. Complex orthopaedic cases may require up to 21 days.

  • Clinical observation: Most patients spend 1 to 3 days in hospital for pain management.
  • Wound review: Surgeons typically remove stitches and assess swelling between days 7 and 10.
  • Travel clearance: Airlines require a formal certificate signed by the Thai medical team.
  • Risk mitigation: Staying 10+ days minimises risks of DVT and swelling during long-haul flights.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai dental clinics often use specialised systems like NobelPerfect and Zygoma for facial osteoplasty. Clinics like SOL Dental in Bangkok serve 1,200 patients annually and specifically cater to Australians. Their proximity to international airports simplifies the logistics of obtaining follow-up clearances before the flight home.

Which hospitals and cities in Thailand are considered best for osteoplasty?

Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai are the main cities for osteoplasty in Thailand. Leading facilities like Bangkok Dental Hospital and SOL Dental Clinic specialise in bone grafting and reconstructive surgery. These centres use digital imaging and recognised implant systems for structural integrity and natural-looking results.

  • Specialised clinics: Bangkok Dental Hospital holds ISO 9001:2000 certification for high-standard infection control.
  • City hubs: Bangkok offers the highest concentration of JCI-accredited hospitals and robotic surgical suites.
  • Expert surgeons: Dr Pawak Tungthangthum in Chiang Mai completed implantology training in the United States.
  • Technology: Centres like SOL Dental Clinic partner with Dentsply Sirona for professional dental technologies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bangkok is the primary hub. However, Chiang Mai has emerged as a high-value alternative for complex bone work. Dr Pawak Tungthangthum at Kitcha Dental Clinic holds US-based credentials from the University of California. This allows patients to find Western-trained expertise outside the capital. These clinics often have shorter wait times for consultations.

Patient Consensus: Australians often look for first-hand accounts naming specific surgeons and hospitals. They value clear communication about aftercare. They also prioritise how clinics manage follow-up care after they return home.
