I am healing faster than I expected, and I am back to my computer, and piano based work 10 days later
Menness clinic is very professional, and I highly recommend them for carpal tunnel release. I had a bilateral open release done by Dr. Big, the orthopedic surgeon on staff at Menness clinic. I was nervous going in because my CTS was severe and I have cerebral palsy. I was pleased to learn that Dr. Big had performed surgery on people with CP previously, and knew exactly what to expect, and how to operate on me to get the best outcome possible. I am healing faster than I expected, and I am back to my computer, and piano based work 10 days later.

FAQ about Lapidus Procedure 3D Bunion Correction (Hallux Valgus) in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Does the Lapidus Procedure 3D Bunion Correction performed in Thailand prevent bunions from returning?

The Lapidus 3D bunion correction in Thailand reduces recurrence by fixing the root cause. Traditional surgery shaves the bone. This technique uses titanium plates to fuse the unstable midfoot joint. It provides 3D alignment and long-term stability.

  • Root cause correction: Stabilises the midfoot joint rather than just removing the bony bump.
  • Recurrence reduction: Targeted 3D alignment addresses the instability that causes most traditional surgery failures.
  • Permanent fixation: Specialists use titanium to fuse bones. This prevents the metatarsal from drifting again.
  • Specialised hospitals: KDMS Specialized Orthopedic Hospital in Bangkok provides dedicated bone and joint care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Traditional bunion surgery in Thailand costs from $2,200. The 3D Lapidus approach starts at $5,500. This offers better value for patients with hypermobility or severe deformities. It often prevents the need for expensive revision surgeries later.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report that addressing bone alignment at the foundation leads to lasting relief. They suggest confirming follow-up arrangements with an Australian specialist before travelling. This helps to ensure the fusion heals correctly.

What is the Lapidus Procedure 3D Bunion Correction available in Thailand?

The Lapidus Procedure 3D Bunion Correction in Thailand is an orthopaedic surgery that realigns the entire metatarsal bone at its foundation. Specialists at AACI-accredited facilities address the deformity in three dimensions. This restores natural foot anatomy and provides long-term stability.

  • Root correction: Rotates the metatarsal bone back into position instead of just shaving the bump.
  • Hardware: Uses titanium plates to secure the unstable joint for permanent results.
  • Weight bearing: Patients can often start walking in a surgical boot within several days.
  • Accredited surgical centres: Specialised hospitals like KDMS in Bangkok provide dedicated orthopaedic care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand’s specialised orthopaedic hospitals offer a distinct advantage for Australian patients. Dr Thongchai Theerajumyaporn at Intrarat Hospital, for example, holds clinical training credentials from Melbourne. This connection means surgical standards and post-operative protocols align closely with Australian expectations.

Patient Consensus: Thailand offers comprehensive 3D realignment that addresses the root cause of bunions. Patients should expect post-operative swelling. They must plan for several weeks of limited mobility before flying home.

What is the typical recovery timeline for 3D bunion surgery in Thailand?

Recovery after 3D bunion surgery in Thailand allows for faster mobility than traditional methods. Patients often begin partial weight-bearing in a protective boot within days or weeks. Most transition to supportive footwear by six weeks. Full athletic activity generally takes four to nine months.

  • Early mobility: Most patients start limited weight-bearing in a specialised boot within days of surgery.
  • Return to walking: Transitioning to supportive shoes typically occurs around the 6-week post-operative mark.
  • Low-impact exercise: Cycling or swimming can usually be resumed between 4 and 12 weeks.
  • Full recovery: Returning to high-impact sports and running generally requires 4 to 9 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While recovery is faster, patients should choose hospitals with on-site rehabilitation. KDMS Specialized Orthopedic Hospital in Bangkok provides dedicated co-treatment spaces. This focus is vital because 3D correction requires precise alignment that robotic-assisted technology helps provide.

Patient Consensus: Expect the first two weeks in Thailand to be the most challenging due to swelling. Long-term stiffness is normal. Plan for telehealth follow-ups and assistance with baggage when flying home.

Where are the best specialist clinics for 3D bunion surgery in Thailand?

Thailand specialises in 3D bunion correction through orthopaedic hospitals and multi-speciality centres in Bangkok and Pattaya. Experts use the Lapidus procedure to realign the foot in three planes. Clinics like KDMS Hospital offer robotic assistance and AACI-accredited surgical care.

  • Orthopaedic specialists: KDMS Hospital in Bangkok is Thailand's first hospital dedicated solely to orthopaedic care.
  • Modern technology: Surgeons use robotic-assistant technology and 3D scanning for precise bone alignment.
  • Expert credentials: Dr Thongchai Theerajumyaporn at Intrarat Hospital completed clinical training in Melbourne, Australia.
  • Minimally invasive options: Specialists like Dr Issaree Laopeamthong focus on small incisions to speed up recovery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: KDMS Specialized Orthopedic Hospital serves 1,000+ patients annually as a dedicated bone-only facility. Choosing a specialised centre over a general hospital provides on-site access to specialised co-treatment spaces. This helps streamline pre-surgical 3D imaging and post-op rehabilitation.
