What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Crown Lengthening in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is it safe to undergo crown lengthening in Thailand?

Crown lengthening in Thailand is safe when performed by qualified periodontists in accredited facilities. High safety standards are maintained through JCI and ISO certifications. Clinics use imaging and hospital-grade sterilisation for predictable surgical results and to realise lower infection risks.

  • Specialist expertise: Procedures are performed by periodontists like Dr Teerawit Chotipanich, who specialises in gum surgery.
  • Accreditation standards: Facilities like Bangkok International Dental Center hold JCI and ISO 9001:2008 UKAS certifications.
  • Imaging technology: Clinics use CT scans and panoramic X-rays for precise bone and tissue mapping.
  • Sedation options: Specific centres like BIDH Dental Hospital offer in-patient sedation for complex surgical cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics treat 1,000+ patients annually. Safety for Australians often hinges on sedation availability. Booking at a dedicated hospital like BIDH provides access to medical-grade anaesthesia and on-site recovery beds. This is rare in standard dental offices but vital for multi-tooth surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that specialists in Thailand provide thorough written treatment plans. They also provide detailed post-operative instructions. Most patients feel more comfortable than expected during the procedure because clinics emphasise gentle techniques and inclusive follow-up visits.

What does the crown lengthening procedure involve in Thailand?

Crown lengthening in Thailand involves reshaping gum tissue and bone to expose more of a tooth's surface. Specialists perform this minor surgery to fix gummy smiles or prepare teeth for crowns. The procedure costs from $100 to $400, saving Australians up to 88%.

  • Surgical techniques: Surgeons perform open flap surgery or use lasers for precise gum reshaping.
  • Functional lengthening: Specialists remove small bone amounts (osteotomy) to support new dental crowns.
  • Imaging: Clinics like Dentist at home use CT scans and panoramic X-rays for planning.
  • Specialist expertise: Periodontists like Dr Teerawit Chotipanich at BIDC specialise in these gum procedures.
  • Comprehensive packages: Many Bangkok clinics wrap consultation, X-rays, and follow-up into a single price.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient data shows a major distinction between soft-tissue laser lengthening and traditional osteotomy. Laser procedures are faster. However, osteotomy is often required for crown stability. Large centres like Bangkok International Dental Center perform 15,000+ procedures annually. They manage high-complexity cases daily.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that crown lengthening often requires a healing interval before the final crown is placed. Expect some swelling and a soft-food diet in Thailand while the gums settle after bone reshaping.

How long should I plan to stay in Thailand for crown lengthening?

Most patients should plan to stay 7 to 10 days in Thailand for crown lengthening. This allows for the dental surgery and a mandatory follow-up to remove sutures. Specialist clinics in Bangkok and Phuket require this timeframe to check early healing before travel.

  • Surgical timeframe: The procedure is usually performed on day 1 or 2 of the trip.
  • Follow-up visit: Suture removal occurs 7 to 10 days after surgery to check healing.
  • Recovery period: Initial swelling and discomfort generally subside within 3 to 5 days.
  • Clinical setting: Most procedures are outpatient, so patients return to their hotel the same day.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Simple aesthetic lengthening is quick. However, functional cases involving osteotomy require precise healing. Data across major Bangkok clinics shows that A$800 packages often include CT scans and panoramic X-rays. These imaging tools help plan surgery that avoids disturbing the underlying bone unnecessarily.

Patient Consensus: Visitors to Thailand suggest scheduling surgery early in the holiday for a relaxed recovery. Many find that a follow-up review provides peace of mind before the flight home.

Are laser options available for crown lengthening in Thailand?

Laser options for crown lengthening are widely available in Thailand at specialised dental centres. This approach provides a less invasive alternative for soft tissue contouring and aesthetic smile makeovers. Clinics in Bangkok and Pattaya use these tools to reduce bleeding and speed up healing compared to traditional methods.

  • Technique availability: Laser-assisted soft tissue contouring is offered alongside surgical open-flap and functional crown lengthening.
  • Clinical standards: Major centres like Bangkok International Dental Center hold JCI accreditation and ISO certifications.
  • Specialist expertise: Periodontists such as Dr Teerawit Chotipanich focus on gum health and biologic width.
  • Cost structure: Laser crown lengthening typically costs from $500 to $800 in Thailand.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Laser dentistry is popular for gummy smile corrections. However, specialists in Thailand often combine it with traditional surgery. For functional crown lengthening, a surgeon may still need to adjust the bone level. This helps to maintain long-term stability and health. Centres like Bangkok International Dental Hospital (BIDH) use European equipment to manage these complex cases safely.

Patient Consensus: Patients visiting Thailand found that laser options made the procedure more comfortable than expected. Many noted that a detailed periodontal assessment helped clarify whether the laser would address their specific bone or gum needs.

What is the recovery timeline for crown lengthening in Thailand?

Crown lengthening recovery in Thailand typically takes 7 to 14 days for initial healing. Most patients return to normal activities within 3 days. Full tissue maturation requires 4 to 12 weeks. This stabilisation period is essential before the placement of final crowns or restorations.

  • Initial phase: Minor swelling and soreness usually resolve within 1 to 3 days.
  • Suture removal: Surgeons typically remove any required stitches after 7 to 10 days.
  • Dietary care: Soft foods and cool liquids help protect the site for 3 days.
  • Stabilisation period: Gums need 3 months of internal healing before permanent crowns are fitted.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center serve 15,000+ patients annually. These facilities often use laser techniques. Laser crown lengthening can reduce recovery to 2 weeks. Lasers cauterise tissue during surgery, leading to less bleeding and faster wound closure.

What is the difference between functional and aesthetic crown lengthening in Thailand?

Functional crown lengthening in Thailand improves dental health by exposing more tooth structure for crowns or fillings. Aesthetic lengthening focuses on correcting gummy smiles or uneven gum lines. Both procedures use surgical or laser methods at JCI-accredited clinics in Bangkok and Phuket.

  • Primary goal: Functional restores tooth stability for crowns. Aesthetic improves smile proportions and balance.
  • Clinical need: Functional is a restorative necessity. Aesthetic is elective for cosmetic enhancement.
  • Target area: Functional applies to any damaged tooth. Aesthetic targets the visible front teeth.
  • Technique variety: Options include laser soft-tissue removal or surgical bone reshaping (osteotomy) for stability.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center often package crown lengthening with final restorations. Choosing a JCI-accredited facility provides access to specialists like Dr. Teerawit Chotipanich. He holds specialised diplomas in periodontology. This expertise is vital when bone reshaping is required for long-term crown stability.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend clarifying if bone removal is necessary. This step impacts healing and sensitivity. Most find that coordination between gum specialists and restorative dentists helps achieve a natural appearance.
