"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Radiotherapy for prostate cancer in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the best hospitals for prostate cancer radiotherapy in South Korea?

Samsung Medical Center, Asan Medical Center, and Severance Hospital are the top institutions for prostate cancer radiotherapy in South Korea. These Seoul-based centres provide Proton Beam Therapy, Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), and Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT). Their success rates often exceed international averages.

  • Samsung Medical Center: Provides Proton Beam Therapy and SBRT at Asia's largest cancer centre.
  • Asan Medical Center: South Korea's largest hospital offering IMRT and personal international patient coordinators.
  • Severance Hospital: JCI-accredited facility collaborating with MD Anderson to deliver high-precision radiosurgery.
  • SNU Bundang Hospital: A premier digital hospital specialising in multidisciplinary oncology and Gamma Knife.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Samsung Medical Center and Seoul National University Hospital are the top choices for high-precision treatment. Samsung is a global leader in Proton Therapy, while Seoul National University Hospital is where the South Korean President receives care. Both clinics handle over 2 million outpatients annually. This gives their doctors vast experience with complex cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend contacting the international departments at these major Seoul universities to confirm English coordination. Australians value the 24/7 interpreter services at Seoul National University Hospital. They also appreciate the free airport transfers provided by Asan Medical Center.

Is the technology in South Korea comparable to Western countries for prostate cancer radiotherapy?

South Korean radiotherapy technology for prostate cancer equals or exceeds Western standards. Leading Seoul centres like Samsung Medical Centre and Severance Hospital use proton beam therapy and carbon ion radiation. These facilities hold JCI accreditation and partner with US institutions like the Mayo Clinic and MD Anderson.

  • Modalities: Facilities offer proton beam and carbon ion therapy for precise tumour targeting.
  • Hardware parity: Centres use Varian and Elekta linear accelerators for standard IMRT and SBRT units.
  • Clinical excellence: Samsung Medical Centre houses Asia’s largest cancer centre with 17 specialised departments.
  • Global benchmarks: Top hospitals consistently rank on Newsweek’s World’s Best Smart Hospitals lists.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea offers immediate access to carbon ion therapy, a technology still in the clinical trial phase at major US centres like the Mayo Clinic. Australian patients can access this ultra-precise radiation now, rather than waiting years for local or Western availability.

Patient Consensus: Treatment in South Korea is significantly faster and more streamlined than in Western countries. Patients found the technology excellent and appreciated the clear payment plans provided for international visitors.

Do Korean doctors speak English, and is there support for foreign patients undergoing prostate cancer radiotherapy?

Korean specialists at major cancer centres in Seoul typically speak fluent English and provide extensive support for international visitors. Leading hospitals keep dedicated international departments, offer 24/7 interpreter services, and hold JCI accreditation for clear communication during complex prostate cancer radiotherapy sessions.

  • Clinical proficiency: Doctors often train in the US or Europe and publish research in English.
  • Translation support: Asan Medical Centre and SNUH provide personal coordinators and 24/7 interpreter services.
  • Accredited standards: Severance Hospital holds JCI accreditation, requiring high-level communication protocols for foreign patients.
  • Financial clarity: Patients often avoid large upfront deposits required by some European medical centres.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Samsung Medical Centre houses Asia’s largest cancer centre and partners with the Mayo Clinic. This connection means their radiotherapy protocols mirror elite Western standards, while treatment costs range from Price on request to Price on request — much lower than Australian private rates.

Patient Consensus: Specialists in Seoul are comfortable discussing second opinions in English and explaining varied radiotherapy options. Patients suggest confirming insurance coverage upfront and requesting a dedicated international coordinator for recovery logistics.

What types of radiation therapy are available for prostate cancer in South Korea?

South Korea offers high-precision prostate cancer radiation therapy. Options include proton beam therapy, carbon ion therapy, and MR-Linac. Major Seoul centres like Samsung Medical Center and Severance Hospital utilise these technologies. They target tumours accurately while sparing surrounding healthy tissue and reducing side effects.

  • Particle therapy: Proton and carbon ion therapy deliver high-energy particles directly to tumours.
  • SBRT protocols: Focused radiation delivered in 5 sessions instead of the traditional 37+.
  • Real-time guidance: MR-Linac uses MRI imaging during treatment to adjust for small movements.
  • Internal options: Brachytherapy involves placing radioactive seeds directly into the prostate gland.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many countries offer SBRT. However, South Korea is one of the few places worldwide with active carbon ion therapy. Data shows patients choose Seoul centres like Severance to access this specific particle therapy. It is often unavailable in Australia. Severance partners with MD Anderson.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the efficiency of Korean centres. Diagnostics and radiation planning often happen within days. 24/7 interpreters and seamless digital image sharing are available. This makes managing complex oncology treatment from Australia much easier.

How long does radiation therapy for prostate cancer in South Korea take?

Radiation therapy for prostate cancer in South Korea typically lasts 1 to 9 weeks. The duration depends on the technology used. Conventional external beam therapy usually spans 4 to 8 weeks. In contrast, options like proton beam therapy or Gamma Knife radiosurgery can complete the course in 1 to 2 weeks.

  • Daily commitment: Sessions generally take 15–30 minutes daily from Monday to Friday on an outpatient basis.
  • Proton beam therapy: Modern precision protocols at Samsung Medical Center reduce surrounding tissue damage and treatment duration.
  • SBRT protocols: Stereotactic body radiation therapy typically involves only 5 sessions over a 1–2 week period.
  • Clinical staging: factoring in PSMA PET-CT imaging and initial specialist consultations may add several days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea excels in high-volume precision oncology. For example, Seoul National University Hospital and Severance Hospital rank in Newsweek World’s Best. Many Australian patients prefer Seoul because clinics use digital imaging with real-time X-ray and MRI to track tumours during radiation. This significantly lowers the risk of affecting bladder or bowel function.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the 2-week hypofractionated courses highly convenient for international travel. They recommend requesting a written plan before flying to Seoul. The plan should include hormone therapy details and the exact number of sessions.

Can I combine radiotherapy with hormone therapy for prostate cancer in South Korea?

South Korean oncology centres frequently combine radiotherapy with hormone therapy. This combination treats intermediate and high-risk prostate cancer. Specialist clinics in Seoul, such as Samsung Medical Center and Severance Hospital, use this approach. It shrinks tumours before radiation and lowers long-term recurrence rates.

  • Treatment timing: Hormone therapy often starts 2–3 months before radiotherapy to shrink the prostate.
  • Clinical precision: Techniques like proton beam therapy and SBRT are paired with hormone injections.
  • Duration standards: Therapy lasts 6 months for intermediate-risk cases. For high-risk cases, it lasts up to 3 years.
  • Outpatient delivery: Most patients receive these treatments on an outpatient basis in major cities.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Samsung Medical Center operates Asia's largest cancer centre with 17 disease-specific departments. Their partnership with the Mayo Clinic allows patients to access proton beam therapy. This technology is often combined with hormone therapy. This helps achieve survival rates that rival leading American institutions.

Patient Consensus: Patients find starting hormone therapy before radiation effective for shrinking tumours. They recommend clarifying treatment duration with oncologists in South Korea to manage fatigue.
