I can genuinely say my eyes look perfectly matched
My main worry before the lateral canthoplasty was asymmetry, knowing how delicate the procedure is, but I can genuinely say my eyes look perfectly matched. It's such a relief. The surgeon and the entire staff provided wonderful care from start to finish. While I'm still in the early stages of healing, the shape is already very close to my goal. The recovery has been manageable. The biggest challenge has been sleeping upright, but that's a small thing compared to the results. I'm so glad I chose this clinic for my procedure and feel very looked after.

Rude staff. And the trip turned out to be in vain. So much time, effort and money was spent. Documents were preliminarily sent, and extracts available at that time, treatment passed, etc. They invited me to the examination and obtain a preliminary treatment plan, although it was clear to the provided procurers that treatment was impossible. They did the same thing that they had sent earlier, shrugged their hands and said Excuse me, we can’t help ...

FAQ about Photocoagulation in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the success rate of photocoagulation in South Korea?

Photocoagulation success rates in South Korea range from 85% to over 98%, depending on the retinal condition. Major Seoul hospitals achieve a 96.4% success rate for anatomical repair when treating retinal detachment. High-volume centres like Samsung Medical Centre manage over 45,000 surgeries annually. This builds deep procedural expertise.

  • Retinal tears: Success rates for sealing peripheral pathologies exceed 98% in clinical studies.
  • Diabetic retinopathy: Specialised Seoul facilities report 85% to 90% efficacy in stabilising vision.
  • Anatomical repair: 360-degree laser techniques achieve 96.4% success in single-surgery cases.
  • Eye lesions: Laser treatment for lesions like pinguecula shows 90% success with low recurrence.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Success rates for retinal laser work correlate with South Korea's digital integration. Hospitals like Seoul National University Bundang Hospital use real-time CT and MRI image sharing. This precision allows specialists to target microscopic retinal tears with higher accuracy than manual methods.

Patient Consensus: Patients report the lasers pose no issues and treated eyes remain in good shape. Results can take months to manifest, requiring strict UV protection and long-term follow-up.

What types of eye conditions are treated with photocoagulation in Korean clinics?

South Korean ophthalmic centres use laser photocoagulation to treat several conditions. These include retinal vascular diseases, retinal tears, and macular oedema. Leading facilities like Samsung Medical Centre use high-precision laser systems. They seal retinal holes and prevent detachment. This treatment is a vital preventative measure for patients with severe nearsightedness.

  • Retinal tears: Surgeons seal holes or thinning areas to prevent full retinal detachment.
  • Diabetic retinopathy: Laser therapy reduces abnormal blood vessel growth and prevents further vision loss.
  • Macular oedema: Focal laser treatment targets fluid buildup to preserve central visual acuity.
  • Vascular diseases: Specialists treat retinal vein occlusions to manage pressure and prevent complications.
  • High myopia: Clinics provide extensive laser work for patients with severe nearsightedness and thinning.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Retinal specialists at major Seoul hospitals often perform 45,000+ annual operations. This volume means they manage complex myopia-related thinning far more often than Australian clinics. Patients with high-dioptre prescriptions receive highly specialised screening protocols during these laser sessions.

Patient Consensus: Patients describe the procedure as a vital safeguard. It prevents worsening retinal tears and holes. They recommend resting for two weeks afterward and avoiding heavy lifting during the recovery period.
