How Much Does Mastectomy Cost in Republic of Korea in AUD?

Mastectomy in the Republic of Korea typically costs from AUD $18,058 to AUD $35,394. Factors affecting the final price include the surgical technique, length of stay, and whether robotic assistance is used. Patients from Australia save approximately 17% compared to local private costs of AUD $21,670. Packages in leading Seoul hospitals generally include the surgery, anaesthetic, and several days of inpatient hospital care.

  • Robotic-assisted surgery: typically adds 20–30% to the base surgical cost for increased precision.
  • Total mastectomy: removes all breast tissue and usually involves a shorter hospital stay.
  • Double mastectomy: costs significantly more than single-side surgery, often ranging from 40–60% higher.
  • Breast reconstruction: adds substantial costs if performed immediately using implants or flap surgery.
  • Pre-operative diagnostics: including PET/CT or breast MRI, typically adds to the initial quote.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing Korea provides access to advanced technology rarely bundled at this price. For example, Korea University Anam Hospital pioneered robotic breast reconstruction to reduce visible scarring significantly. While high-end digital facilities like Seoul National University Bundang Hospital represent the premium tier, accredited multidisciplinary centres often provide similar surgical expertise and digital safety systems for a lower total investment.

Data verified by Bookimed as of July 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 149 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Mastectomy in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How long is the recovery time and hospital stay for a mastectomy in South Korea?

Mastectomy patients in South Korea typically stay in hospital for 3 to 5 days. Most international patients remain in the country for at least 14 days. This allows time for drain management, wound monitoring, and final surgical clearance before flying back to Australia.

  • Hospital stay: Inpatients stay for 3 to 5 days during acute recovery.
  • Monitoring period: Specialists recommend staying in Seoul for 14 days post-surgery.
  • Drain management: Surgical drains usually remain for 7 to 14 days after surgery.
  • Follow-up schedule: Appointments typically occur on days 3, 7, and 10–14.
  • Full recovery: Resolving major swelling and returning to exercise takes 1.5 to 3 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Major centres like Seoul National University Hospital achieve 91.9% breast cancer survival rates. However, patient data shows a split in drain protocols. Some surgeons insist on a 14-day drain period. Others allow removal at 7 days. Confirming this timeline early helps patients avoid unexpected hotel costs during the mandatory stay.

Patient Consensus: Patients should expect to stay near the clinic for at least a week after discharge. Patients report that returning to light activity is possible once drains are removed. Interpreters in Gangnam clinics help bridge the gap during follow-up checks.

Are robotic mastectomies available in South Korea?

South Korea is a global pioneer in robotic mastectomies, specifically for nipple-sparing techniques. Surgeons at Severance Hospital in Seoul performed Asia's first robot-assisted case in 2016. The country remains one of only three nations worldwide using this technology. It helps preserve original breast and nipple sensation.

  • Technological leadership: Leading centres use the da Vinci robotic system for precise, minimally invasive incisions.
  • Scarring benefits: Surgeons remove tissue through small armpit incisions, which leaves minimal physical scarring.
  • Nerve restoration: Specialists can perform ReSensation nerve grafts during surgery to restore nipple sensation.
  • High volumes: Medical teams at Severance Hospital performed over 1,000 robotic mastectomies by 2025.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Robotic mastectomies are a specialised technique. However, they are primarily used as a preventive measure for high-risk patients. Data shows that for cancer patients, eligibility depends strictly on two factors. These are the tumour's size and its distance from the nipple.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the aesthetic results of small armpit incisions in Seoul. They choose Korean specialists specifically to access the ReSensation technique. This technique helps regain nipple feeling after surgery.

How can I find the best clinic for a mastectomy in Seoul, South Korea?

To find the best mastectomy clinic in Seoul, patients should prioritise JCI-accredited university hospitals like Samsung Medical Centre or Severance Hospital. These centres lead in robotic-assisted surgery and oncoplastic techniques. Seoul National University Hospital reports a 91.9% survival rate for breast cancer patients.

  • Accreditation standards: Patients should look for KOIHA or JCI certification held by top-tier Seoul university hospitals.
  • Robotic innovation: Severance Hospital has performed robot-assisted mastectomies since 2016 to preserve nipple sensation.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Lee Ji Hyun at Na-Eun Hospital specialise in breast oncology.
  • Support services: Gangnam Severance Hospital provides free interpreters and airport transfers for international cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many patients look at general oncology rankings, the real differentiator in Seoul is robotic reconstruction. Korea University Anam Hospital pioneered techniques that reduce surgical scars to one-tenth of the traditional size. This significantly improves psychological recovery after surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients should focus on major hospitals with dedicated breast departments rather than generic plastic surgery clinics in Gangnam. Many patients in South Korea recommend packing bio-oil. They also advise confirming that English-speaking coordinators are available for complex medical discussions.
