How Much Does Lip Reduction Cost in Republic of Korea in AUD?

Lip reduction in the Republic of Korea typically costs from AUD $1,529 to AUD $6,254. Prices fluctuate based on surgical complexity, the clinic's prestige, and whether treatment involves one or both lips. In Australia, this procedure averages AUD $5,420, meaning patients can save approximately 28% by visiting medical hubs like Seoul, Daegu, or Daejeon. Standard Korean packages usually include the surgeon's fee, local anaesthetic, and initial following-up care.

  • Double lip reduction: typically costs 30–40% more than treating a single lip.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a Seoul-based clinic offers access to vast clinical experience. JK Plastic Surgery Center, for instance, has performed over 85,000 procedures. High patient volumes often lead to refined techniques like the scarless lip lift used by specialists like Dr. Seung-il Chung. I felt I was in good hands throughout the entire process
If you're considering this procedure, my main advice would be to find a team you genuinely feel comfortable with. For me, that made all the difference. The surgeon and staff were so supportive and the clinic itself has a very professional, calming feel. I'm still in the early stages of recovery, but I can already see the outcome I wanted—the perfect amount of tooth show. The surgeon used a bullhorn incision, and the scar is already barely visible. It’s been a little challenging to eat carefully, but that's a temporary inconvenience. I felt I was in good hands throughout the entire process.

I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come here, and my flight back to Hawaii was smooth and stress-free
I had an amazing experience with Dr. Park and the entire team! From start to finish, everyone—especially Joanne—was incredibly accommodating and attentive, which made me feel safe and well cared for. Dr. Park did an incredible job on my breast augmentation. Remarkably, after just one day of recovery, I was able to walk around Seoul, use public transport, and see all the sights I wanted to visit. Although it was slightly uncomfortable at times, I never experienced significant pain beyond the first few hours after waking from anesthesia. I truly believe this speaks to Dr. Park’s precision—and maybe a little to my own fast healing! The clinic goes above and beyond for their patients. I received IV therapy, red light therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, all of which made me feel well supported throughout recovery. Dr. Park and the team checked in consistently, which is such a green flag—so different from many experiences in the U.S., where doctors often focus solely on the surgery itself. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come here, and my flight back to Hawaii was smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend Dr. Park for anyone seeking attentive, professional care and excellent results.

That gave me a lot of confidence
I really appreciated the time my doctor took during the consultation for my forehead and frown lines. He was so thorough, explaining exactly where and why he would inject, and was very honest about what realistic results would look like after showing me photos of previous patients. That gave me a lot of confidence. Now in my early recovery, I'm feeling better than expected. It was a good process. The final price was exactly what I was quoted, with no additional expenses. My only note is that there was little contact from the clinic after my appointment, but overall the service was solid.

FAQ about Lip Reduction in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the difference between lip reduction and a lip lift when considering surgery in South Korea?

South Korean clinics distinguish lip reduction from lip lifts. Lip reduction removes excess tissue to decrease volume. Lip lifts shorten the philtrum to enhance the upper lip profile. Reduction focuses on thinning thick lips. In contrast, lifts improve structural proportions. They often use scar-minimising techniques like the endonasal approach.

  • Surgical goals: Lip reduction decreases thickness while a lip lift shortens the nose-to-lip distance.
  • Incision sites: Reduction uses internal mouth incisions whereas lifts typically involve sub-nasal or endonasal access.
  • Volume vs exposure: Reduction removes tissue physically but lifts only expose more natural lip mucosa.
  • Technique variety: Korean specialists like Dr Seung-il Chung offer scarless lip lifts to minimise visible marks.
  • Aesthetic ratios: Surgeons often target a specific 0.8 upper-to-lower lip ratio for facial harmony.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Lip reduction costs from $1,100 to $4,500. However, it is far less common in Seoul than philtrum reduction. Specialist clinics like AB Plastic Surgery maintain a high doctor-to-anaesthetist ratio. This is vital for precision procedures involving delicate facial nerves and muscle tissue.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Republic of Korea highlight that surgeons use endonasal techniques. These hide scars inside the nostrils. Many advise dissolving existing fillers before surgery so the specialist can accurately measure their natural philtrum height.

What are the risks of lip reduction in Korea?

Lip reduction in the Republic of Korea is a precise procedure with risks including temporary numbness, asymmetry, and visible scarring. Leading Seoul clinics such as AB Plastic Surgery use 3D CT diagnostics to avoid major nerves, but patients may experience lip stiffness or tightness during the 1–2 week recovery period.

  • Technique-specific risks: Intra-nasal incisions may slightly alter the lower nose or cause contracture.
  • Nerve sensitivity: Temporary numbness is common, though permanent nerve damage remains a rare risk.
  • Functional changes: Patients often need to eat only through a straw for 1–2 weeks because of pain.
  • Asymmetry risk: Over-reduction can lead to uneven contouring or an unnatural lip drop.
  • Scarring reality: Noticeable scars can occur despite scarless branding, especially on darker skin.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients confuse lip reduction with philtrum reduction or lip lifts in Seoul. Data shows clinics like AB Plastic Surgery maintain a high anaesthetist-to-surgeon ratio. This suggests a focus on safety during precise facial surgeries that others might overlook.

Patient Consensus: Expect months of stiffness and difficulty whistling or controlling saliva while the incision heals. Most people suggest getting multiple consultations to discuss scar management protocols and potential nose changes.

Is lip reduction in Korea permanent?

Lip reduction in Korea is a permanent surgical procedure because specialists physically remove a strip of skin or mucosal tissue. Unlike temporary fillers, the excised tissue does not regenerate. Surgeons in Seoul often use scarless techniques or internal incisions. These provide lasting structural changes without visible external marking.

  • Technique: Specialists remove muscle and mucosal tissue via intraoral incisions for a lifelong result.
  • Scarless lift: Dr Seung-il Chung at Retmus Plastic Surgery uses a proprietary technique to minimise scarring.
  • Visual settling: The permanent shape stabilises after 5–6 months as internal scar tissue softens naturally.
  • Minor drop: A 1–2 mm drop is common during the first 2 months of healing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While lip reduction is permanent, many Korean clinics like Retmus Plastic Surgery specialise in philtrum reduction. This technique removes skin under the nose to create a permanent C-curl effect. It is often more popular than traditional reduction. It provides a lasting aesthetic shift that fillers cannot replicate.

Patient Consensus: Tissue removal in Republic of Korea makes results permanent but patients should expect slight settling as swelling fades. Final looks appear around 6 months. Most report returning to normal activity within 2 months. They also notice permanent changes in how they use straws or whistle.

How long does recovery after lip reduction in Korea take?

After lip reduction in South Korea, initial recovery takes 7 to 10 days. During this time, stitches are removed and patients return to light work. Significant swelling and bruising generally resolve within 4 weeks. Final tissue softening and settled results typically occur between 3 and 6 months.

  • Clinic stay: Patients usually need a 7 to 10-day trip to Seoul for necessary stitch removal.
  • Initial milestones: Swelling peaks during days 1–3 and begins to subside significantly by day 7.
  • Work return: Most patients return to office work within 10 days as public interaction becomes comfortable.
  • Activity restrictions: Strict avoidance of strenuous exercise and excessive lip stretching is required for 2 months.
  • Dietary care: Soft foods are essential for the first 7 days to protect internal incisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many Seoul clinics offer de-swelling lasers, lasting success depends on speech patterns. Bookimed data shows specialists like Dr Seung-il Chung at Retmus focus on minimising scar tissue. Patients must avoid pronouncing explosive B or P sounds for 2 weeks. This prevents scar stretching.

Patient Consensus: Public interaction feels comfortable by week 3 once the bulk of bruising fades. Korean surgeons mandate staying until day 7 for follow-up. Pronunciation returns to normal by month 2 as internal tightness softens. Plan for a 10-day trip to manage post-op fatigue and required clinic visits.

How is the lip reduction procedure performed in Korea?

Korean lip reduction surgery achieves facial balance. It does this by removing thin strips of internal lip mucosa or shortening the philtrum. Surgeons in Seoul specialise in scarless techniques and the 1:1.6 golden ratio. Surgeons typically make intraoral incisions or hidden placements under the nostrils. This avoids visible external scarring.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons make horizontal incisions along the internal wet-dry border for traditional tissue reduction.
  • Tissue removal: Specialists excise precise amounts of mucosa and muscle to refine lip volume and shape.
  • Philtrum reduction: Many Korean clinics perform lip lifts by removing skin under the nose to shorten it.
  • Layered suturing: Doctors use dissolvable sutures and nano threads under magnification for smooth, natural contours.
  • Recovery timeline: Initial swelling lasts 2 weeks. Final results usually appear after 5–6 months of healing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Retmus Plastic Surgery offers a unique safety net. They provide half-price revisions for up to 2 years after the initial surgery. This is rare in Seoul, where standard revision fees apply. Philtrum scars can stay pink for 3 months. So this policy offers significant peace of mind for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients in the Republic of Korea find the scarless lip lift incredibly effective. It shortens the mid-face. They recommend booking on-site laser sessions. These help the incision lines fade faster during the first 3 months.

What is the difference between lip reduction and a lip lift (e.g., Bullhorn) in Korea?

Lip reduction in Korea focuses on removing excess tissue from the inner lip. This decreases volume and projection. A lip lift, such as the Bullhorn method, shortens the philtrum to increase upper lip visibility. Korean clinics often specialise in endonasal techniques to minimise external scarring.

  • Lip reduction goal: Decreases overall lip thickness by removing a strip of internal mucosa.
  • Lip lift goal: Increases vermilion show by reducing the space between nose and lip.
  • Incision location: Reduction uses hidden intraoral incisions, while Bullhorn lifts use subnasal incisions.
  • Scarring profile: Korean surgeons like Dr Seung-il Chung offer scarless techniques for lift procedures.
  • Recovery expectations: Lift scars typically remain red for 1 to 3 months before fading.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Lip reduction is straightforward. However, Korean specialists often recommend the endonasal lift over the standard Bullhorn. This scarless method avoids subnasal marks but requires high precision to prevent nostril distortion. Patients should confirm the specific approach. Endonasal lifts are technically more demanding than traditional skin-only reductions.

Patient Consensus: Many patients call the lip lift a philtrum reduction in Korea. The results typically look natural. However, experts suggest removing all lip fillers before the consultation. This allows the surgeon to accurately measure the natural philtrum height during the appointment.

Where can I get lip reduction done in Seoul, Korea?

Specialised clinics in the Gangnam district of Seoul perform lip reduction. They use internal incisions to remove excess vermilion tissue. Procedures typically cost between $1,100 and $4,500. This offers around 28% savings compared to the $3,900 average in Australia.

  • Specialist centres: AB Plastic Surgery and JK Plastic Surgery Center specialise in refined facial contouring.
  • Techniques: Dr. Seung-il Chung at Retmus Plastic Surgery uses internal endonasal incisions to hide scars.
  • Clinical safety: AB Plastic Surgery maintains a high specialist-to-patient ratio with 24-hour CCTV monitoring.
  • Accredited facilities: Severance Hospital holds JCI accreditation, meaning surgical standards meet international hospital safety benchmarks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Seoul clinics focus on lip lifts to shorten the philtrum. However, those wanting a true volume reduction should target single-surgeon practices like Dr. Tak Plastic Surgery. These smaller clinics provide more consistent results for soft-tissue removal than high-volume general aesthetic hospitals.

Patient Consensus: Clinics in Seoul often include English-speaking support and luxury transfers. Patients recommend requesting photos of internal incision results. These show how well scars are hidden inside the nose or lip line.
