"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about High intensity focused ultrasound ablation (HIFU) in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the success rate of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) for uterine fibroids in South Korea?

HIFU success rates for uterine fibroids in South Korea are consistently high. Between 48.2% and 71.1% of patients report significant symptom improvement. Clinical data shows fibroid volume typically reduces by 40.2% within three months. Most patients avoid further surgery, showing strong primary treatment efficacy.

  • Sustained success: Long-term data indicates an 80% sustained success rate over five years.
  • Ablation efficiency: Immediate MRI scans often show that 90% or more of the fibroid tissue is successfully ablated.
  • Low re-intervention: Only 5 patients in a 272-person cohort required later surgical follow-up.
  • Safety record: Complication rates sit at 10.2%, with most being mild and self-resolving.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea treats 4,000,000+ patients annually at centres like Severance Hospital. However, success hinges on fibroid size. Data shows outcomes are most predictable for fibroids under 10 cm. Specialists like Dr Jung Nan Hee at Trinity Women's Clinic typically use MRI results. These results confirm specific fibroid characteristics before proceeding.

Patient Consensus: Patients report immediate relief from pressure and heavy bleeding after treatment in South Korea. The non-surgical approach allows a quick return to daily life. There is no major scarring.

Is HIFU in South Korea suitable for patients wishing to conceive after treatment?

HIFU in South Korea is highly suitable for patients wishing to conceive. It treats uterine fibroids and adenomyosis without incisions. This non-invasive approach leaves no uterine scarring. Specialists at centres like Severance Hospital use ultrasound-guided technology to preserve the uterine wall. This supports future natural delivery.

  • Uterine integrity: Non-surgical ablation eliminates the risk of uterine rupture during pregnancy by avoiding traditional surgical cuts.
  • Conception timeline: Specialists typically recommend waiting 3–6 months for the treated tissue to shrink properly.
  • Vaginal delivery: Patients often remain eligible for vaginal births rather than requiring mandatory Caesarean sections.
  • Advanced technology: Centres use 4th-generation systems to target diseased tissue while sparing healthy uterine muscle.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Korea's specialised clinics offer a distinct advantage for fertility-focused patients. They have dual-qualified specialists. Dr Jung Nan Hee at Trinity Women's Clinic is an expert in HIFU. She also completed a preceptorship in reproductive biology. This combination helps the treatment plan align with long-term goals. These goals might be natural conception or IVF protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients are often impressed by the precision of Korean diagnostics. They also appreciate the ability to avoid major surgery. Many highlight the relief of preserving the uterus while managing painful symptoms like adenomyosis.

What are the possible side effects of HIFU treatment in South Korea?

HIFU in South Korea is a non-surgical procedure with mostly mild side effects like temporary redness, swelling, or tingling. However, patients may experience moderate discomfort or facial fat loss if energy settings exceed their needs. Leading Seoul clinics maintain high safety standards through JCI-accredited protocols.

  • Common swelling: Patients typically experience swelling for several days up to 2 weeks.
  • Nerve sensitivity: Temporary stinging or buzzing sensations usually resolve within a few days.
  • Facial fat loss: Improper application can reduce facial volume, causing a sunken appearance.
  • Surface reactions: Mild redness and tenderness around the jawline are standard post-treatment effects.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Seoul clinics specialise in uterus-preserving treatments using HIFU, led by specialists like Dr Jung Nan Hee. Our data shows these doctors often lead international master classes. This expertise in internal medical HIFU helps explain the precise energy control used in their aesthetic treatments.

Patient Consensus: Patients in South Korea report that certain protocols require being awake to monitor discomfort. They suggest choosing experienced practitioners to avoid gaunt results and ensure jawline elasticity remains natural.

Is the HIFU procedure in South Korea painful?

HIFU procedures in South Korea are generally tolerable but involve sensations of deep heat and sharp zaps. Specialists use numbing cream to manage discomfort during the 30 to 60-minute session. Shurink offers a milder experience. US-made Ultherapy penetrates deeper and is often described as a stronger ache.

  • Device choice: Shurink is a gentler Korean brand compared to the more intense US-made Ultherapy.
  • Numbing cream: Clinics commonly apply topical anaesthesia to keep the facial lifting session manageable.
  • Intensity adjustments: Technicians can lower device settings immediately if patients experience deep aches or shocks.
  • Ultrasound imaging: Ultherapy uses DeepSEE real-time imaging to avoid nerves and bone, reducing unnecessary pain.
  • Combined treatments: Sessions pairing Shurink and Ultherapy typically result in higher levels of physical discomfort.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data suggests a clear trade-off between comfort and longevity in Seoul. Patients often choose Ultherapy despite its stronger sensation because it lasts up to 18 months. Shurink is the preferred budget choice for regular maintenance every 6 months due to its significantly milder pain profile.

Patient Consensus: Numbing cream makes the facial treatment in South Korea feel virtually painless for most people. Some patients found the deep ache of high-intensity sessions manageable by simply asking the technician to lower the settings.

How long does recovery after HIFU in South Korea take?

Recovery after High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound in South Korea is swift. It typically takes 3–6 days for most patients to resume normal daily activities. Cosmetic HIFU often involves zero downtime. However, medical treatments for uterine fibroids may see visible swelling or bruising peak around day 2 or 3.

  • Hospital stay: Patients usually leave hospital same-day as HIFU is an outpatient procedure.
  • Daily activities: Resume normal routines, including make-up application, immediately after cosmetic sessions.
  • Activity restrictions: Avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for 10 days to support healing.
  • Swelling resolution: Minor facial swelling and bruising typically resolve within 2–7 days.
  • Results timeline: Initial tightening appears immediately, with peak results showing around 3–6 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients overlook the importance of clinician selection. In Seoul, master surgeons like Dr Jung Nan Hee perform thousands of procedures. This significantly reduces the risk of facial fat loss often associated with incorrect intensity settings. Choosing a doctor-led clinic rather than a staff-operated facility leads to better long-term aesthetic outcomes.

Patient Consensus: Most people feel comfortable travelling within 3 days. They also appreciate the lack of surgical scars. South Korean clinics often provide high-quality post-care advice to manage temporary redness effectively.

Can foreign patients receive HIFU treatment in South Korea?

Foreign patients can access HIFU treatment in South Korea for both medical and cosmetic purposes. Specialists in Seoul use high-intensity focused ultrasound to treat uterine fibroids or perform non-surgical facial lifting. Facilities like Severance Hospital hold JCI accreditation and meet international safety standards for overseas patients.

  • Dual applications: Clinics offer medical HIFU for fibroids and cosmetic lifting via Shurink or Ultherapy.
  • Expert specialists: Dr Jung Nan Hee at Trinity Women's Clinic is a recognised Master Surgeon.
  • Quality standards: Government-approved devices meet MFDS and FDA requirements for precise treatment.
  • Patient support: Major Seoul hospitals provide bilingual staff and dedicated international clinics for foreigners.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many seek cosmetic lifting, South Korea excels in medical HIFU for women's health. Dr Yang Ki Yeol at Trinity Women's Clinic is a board-certified specialist in this field. Hospital-based specialists offer PhD-level expertise not typically found in high-street beauty boutiques.

Patient Consensus: Patients find cosmetic lifting widely available in Seoul. Results appear gradually over several sessions. Travellers suggest comparing several free consultations. This helps confirm the practitioner understands different facial structures and avoids over-treatment.

What are the best clinics for HIFU in Seoul, South Korea?

Top Seoul clinics for HIFU include Trinity Women's Clinic, Severance Hospital, and Cheongdam Hifu Clinic. These centres specialise in non-surgical ultrasound-guided ablation for both aesthetic and medical concerns. Specialists use technology to target deep tissue layers. This often serves as a uterus-preserving alternative to traditional surgery.

  • Specialist expertise: Dr Jung Nan Hee at Trinity Women's Clinic holds a PhD and Master Surgeon status.
  • Clinical volume: Severance Hospital serves 4,000,000+ outpatients annually within a JCI-accredited facility.
  • Targeted devices: Clinics offer premium Ultherapy for lifting or budget-friendly Shurink Universe for maintenance.
  • Combined therapies: Leading centres often integrate Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) to improve skin elasticity and contouring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many patients focus on Gangnam skin clinics, Trinity Women's Clinic stands out for medical HIFU. Their founders are master surgeons who conduct international master classes in ultrasound techniques. This level of academic leadership often provides more precise outcomes for complex, non-surgical uterine treatments.

Patient Consensus: Visitors in South Korea recommend confirming the exact shot count and machine model before starting. Most suggest using local navigation apps to find highly-rated neighbourhood clinics. They offer better value than premium tourist-focused centres.
