When asked what I specifically liked, I honestly answered — everything
The initial conversation with the neurosurgeon immediately determined my choice. I received comprehensive answers to all my prepared questions, and I had no doubts about the next steps. This approach to the patient was characteristic of the entire process. When asked what I specifically liked, I honestly answered — everything. From the initial trip organization through Bookimed to the staff's work at the clinic itself. It's hard to single out just one thing. The surgeon and the entire team worked very cohesively, and I didn't encounter any shortcomings. I am currently in the early stages of recovery. For those seeking precision and professionalism, I can say that the organization was at the proper level.

"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Brachytherapy for prostate cancer in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How do I choose a doctor for brachytherapy for prostate cancer in South Korea?

To choose a doctor for brachytherapy in South Korea, select a high-volume specialist at a university hospital accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI). Give priority to specialists at institutions like Severance Hospital or SNUH (Seoul National University Hospital). These hospitals perform thousands of oncology procedures annually.

  • Specialist volume: Choose a doctor who performs hundreds of prostate seed implants annually for precision.
  • Accreditation standards: Verify Joint Commission International and KOIHA certifications, which confirm internationally recognised safety.
  • Institutional partnerships: Look for clinics collaborating with global leaders like MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Technology access: Check that the hospital uses tomotherapy or imaging-guided systems for seed placement.
  • International support: Confirm 24/7 interpreter services are available for complex medical discussions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While major Seoul hospitals offer elite oncology care, Gangnam Severance Hospital stands out for value. They provide free airport transfers for treatments over A$4,400. This is a practical benefit for Australians. It helps them navigate the logistics of a major cancer procedure abroad.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Republic of Korea appreciate the potency preservation of brachytherapy. They suggest confirming dedicated English support. This helps navigate the 10–14 days of catheter use and recovery.

Is brachytherapy for prostate cancer in South Korea suitable for advanced prostate cancer?

Brachytherapy in South Korea is not suitable as a standalone treatment for advanced prostate cancer. It cannot be used when the cancer has spread. It primarily treats localised disease. However, Seoul specialists combine high-dose-rate temporary implants with external beam radiation and hormone therapy. This is for locally advanced cases.

  • Treatment scope: Brachytherapy alone suits only organ-confined, low-to-intermediate risk prostate cancers.
  • Combination therapy: Locally advanced cases often require brachytherapy boosters alongside external beam radiation.
  • Advanced technology: Gangnam Severance Hospital uses two Tomotherapy devices for highly accurate radiation delivery.
  • Multi-modal approach: Systemic treatments like PSMA-directed therapy are preferred if cancer reaches lymph nodes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Brachytherapy starts from $13,800. However, patients with advanced cases should look at Seoul National University Hospital. They achieve survival rates that often exceed international averages. Their multi-disciplinary teams specialise in complex cases that smaller clinics cannot handle safely.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that Korean clinics provide imaging like PSMA scans. This confirms cancer is truly contained. This helps confirm if seeds or temporary implants will be effective before surgery.

What are the main benefits of choosing South Korea for brachytherapy for prostate cancer?

South Korea provides high-value brachytherapy for prostate cancer through elite university hospitals holding JCI and KOIHA accreditations. Patients benefit from 3D image-guided radiation and robotic systems. Costs range from $13,800 to $19,200. The precision spares healthy tissue and preserves function.

  • Clinical excellence: Major centres like Severance Hospital partner with top-tier US providers like MD Anderson.
  • Technology: Facilities use da Vinci robotic systems and Tomotherapy for precise radioactive seed placement.
  • High volume: Seoul National University Hospital treats 30,000 international patients annually across specialised departments.
  • Patient support: Comprehensive services include 24/7 interpreters and airport transfers for bills over A$4,400.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing Seoul for brachytherapy provides access to clinical benchmarks that often exceed Western averages. Seoul National University Hospital maintains cancer survival rates and organ preservation stats higher than leading US centres. This makes South Korea a strategic choice for patients seeking technical precision over simple cost savings.

Where are the best hospitals to receive brachytherapy for prostate cancer in South Korea?

Seoul contains South Korea's best hospitals for prostate cancer brachytherapy. Leading centres like Samsung Medical Centre and Severance Hospital specialise in this treatment. It is an internal radiation procedure. They provide multidisciplinary teams and JCI-accredited facilities. They also offer permanent seed or high-dose rate procedures for international patients.

  • Samsung Medical Centre: Top-ranked oncology centre in Asia with a dedicated International Healthcare Centre.
  • Severance Hospital: JCI-accredited facility using radiotherapy for complex prostate cancer cases.
  • Asan Medical Centre: South Korea's largest hospital specialising in high-volume, multidisciplinary oncology care.
  • Specialised techniques: Clinics offer both Permanent Seed Implants (LDR) and High-Dose Rate (HDR) brachytherapy.
  • Patient support: Dedicated English-speaking coordinators help with translation and medical appointments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Major Seoul centres provide digital health systems for faster treatment planning. Hospitals like Samsung Medical Centre integrate robotic technology for higher precision during seed placement. This accuracy helps spare surrounding healthy tissue from radiation exposure.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Seoul appreciate the seamless coordination and English-speaking staff. The care feels intensive and highly organised during the entire stay. Most mention feeling safe in the modern, digital hospital environments.

What types of brachytherapy for prostate cancer are available in South Korea?

South Korean medical centres provide both Low-dose rate (LDR) and High-dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy for prostate cancer. These internal radiation treatments take place at JCI-accredited facilities in Seoul. Specialists often combine these techniques with robotic surgery or tomotherapy. This targets tumours while sparing healthy tissue.

  • LDR seed brachytherapy: Permanent radioactive seeds (I-125) are implanted for localised, low-risk cases.
  • HDR brachytherapy: Temporary high-dose radiation sources (Ir-192) treat higher-risk patient groups.
  • Combination protocols: HDR is frequently used with external beam radiation to improve outcomes.
  • Tumour-selective focal therapy: Newer techniques target specific tumour areas to help preserve potency.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Korea's top oncology centres like Gangnam Severance Hospital use tomotherapy alongside brachytherapy. This allows doctors to deliver radiation with extreme precision. Costs for brachytherapy typically range from $13,800 to $19,200. Even so, the integration of digital hospital systems makes treatment planning highly efficient.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the use of small radioactive seeds in South Korea for faster recovery. They often note that these procedures effectively preserve quality of life and function.

What is the current status of brachytherapy for prostate cancer in South Korea?

Brachytherapy is an established prostate cancer treatment in South Korea, primarily offered at JCI-accredited university hospitals in Seoul. It involves placing radioactive seeds directly into the prostate. This kills cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue. The procedure typically costs from $13,800 to $19,200.

  • Clinical centres: Treatment is concentrated in Seoul at institutions like Severance Hospital and SNUH.
  • Pricing details: Local costs average $13,800, which is about 31% less than Australia.
  • Hospital stay: Patients usually spend 2–3 nights in hospital for monitoring and recovery.
  • Advanced imaging: Surgeons use transrectal ultrasound to ensure precise seed placement during the procedure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While South Korea is famous for robotic surgery, brachytherapy remains a specialised niche. Top hospitals like Severance Hospital partner with MD Anderson in the US, ensuring radiation protocols meet global standards. This collaboration provides high-level expertise for patients seeking internal radiation over surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients report the procedure involves roughly 100 radioactive seeds and preserves potency well. Some experience temporary urinary urgency after the seeds are implanted in Seoul hospitals.
