How Much Does Surgical Abortion Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Surgical abortion in Turkey typically costs from AUD $1,136 to AUD $1,987. The final price depends on the gestational week, the type of anaesthetic used, and whether the patient chooses a standalone procedure or a full medical tourism package. In Australia, similar private procedures cost around AUD $2,981 on average. Patients save approximately 48% by travelling to Turkey, where main hubs include Istanbul and Antalya. Higher-tier packages often include preoperative tests, consultations, and VIP transfers.

  • Anesthesia type: Choosing general anaesthesia or sedation instead of local anaesthetic typically adds 20–30% to the base price.
  • Medical complexity: Factors such as multiple pregnancies or the presence of cysts can increase the standard procedure fee.
  • Hospital accreditation: Facilities with JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation often have higher pricing than smaller private clinics but meet rigorous global quality standards.
  • Gestational week: Costs generally increase with each passing week of pregnancy up to the legal limit.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a package at a multidisciplinary centre can offer better value than choosing a standalone clinic. At Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, packages start around A$2,400 and include highly experienced surgeons who have performed over 900 procedures. For patients seeking a more streamlined experience, Memorial Göztepe Hospital offers all-inclusive options for approximately A$5,200. These covers the mandatory preoperative tests and consultations, which saves patients from managing separate medical bills during their stay.

hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏
To be honest, we found the clinic by searching for the top 10 hospitals in Turkey and chose Memorial, the call centre was very adequate, we were met at the airport by a special clinic transfer car, which was very convenient for us! Then we had a consultation with doctor Semre Kahraman, she explained us the next steps of our operation (IVF) in a very clear language. We are planning to have the operation at the end of November hopefully we will succeed very much believe in Dr Semre 🙏, I forgot to mention the consultation was free which surprised me very pleasantly 😳 as last year I was in Medipole there I paid 220$ for the consultation.
I liked Dr Semre the best.

She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my coordinating doctor Yaroslava from the platform. She was on call 24/7, always answered in detail, politely and with great patience. Yaroslava even enquired about my impressions after my consultation with the doctor, which was very pleasant. Her responsiveness and support helped me to make an important decision. As for the treatment and the doctor, it is too early to give a final assessment, as we are just starting to work. But I can already say that I chose Memorial Ataşehir Clinic and I was satisfied with the staff, the doctor, the interpreter and the clinic itself. I will definitely write a full review of the results later.
A reverent approach of the doctor, no rush, polite, smiling. And my doctor coordinator Yaroslava.

Yes, I liked it overall. But I didn’t like how translators work - there are not enough Russian-speaking translators, you have to wait for them all the time, once I waited 1.5 hours, once without an interpreter I mixed up the medication, I didn’t take the medicine correctly, because I didn’t understand correctly, even if the translator comes to you, will be in a hurry, because they have a lot of work. The clinic in the Bahcelievler district is large, modern, all tests, medicines can be bought on the spot, the staff is polite. I can’t say the result of infertility treatment yet, since I have only gone halfway through IVF, but I hope for a successful result.

Was offered an appointment and was told it would be online and an interpreter would be provided but there was no interpreter. I was told to pay a deposit but then after the appointment which was suppose to last an hour but lasted 20 minutes (and was started late) was concluded the hospital refused to refund me the deposit when I decided not to proceed! Luckily my credit card was able to get the money back for me.
Nothing
Lack of professionalism, lack of empathy and understanding. Changing the times of my appointment and not having an interpreter available despite promising to have an interpreter.

"The doctor was very good, answered all the questions, explained everything
The doctor was very good, answered all the questions, explained everything. The only thing I didn’t like was the wait. At the reception no one spoke English or Russian, I had to wait for an interpreter from another part of the clinic. We were hungry and nervous while waiting, but overall the reception and consultation went well.

I am very happy and satisfied with Bookimed service
My experience in the hospital was not the best one. Please don't get me wrong, the hospital is well maintained and organized. The only problem I had was the visa for my husband. They have assigned interpreter for me in Bulgarian (I have not requested, because my husband doesn't speak my language, so we preferred English communication), however the lady took more than two weeks to replay my email and send the invitation letter. The visa was not ready on time. My treatment started and I had to cancel because my husband was not able to come. We have lost a lot of money and of course the delay of our dream. No one even offer an apology to me.. I am very happy and satisfied with Bookimed service. Everyone I talk to is very polite, attentive and try to fulfil all the request and solve the problem. Thank you so much. I will be happy to work with you again.

FAQ about Surgical Abortion in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is surgical abortion legal in Turkey, and what are the time limits for international patients?

Surgical abortion is legal in Turkey on request for all women up to 10 weeks of pregnancy. This limit applies to both domestic and international patients. Legal access requires specific consent based on marital status and age within private clinics.

  • Time limit: Legal termination on request is available strictly up to the 10th week.
  • Marital consent: Married women require written consent from their husband under Turkish law.
  • Unmarried adults: Unmarried women aged 18 and over provide their own legal consent.
  • Clinical standard: Vacuum aspiration is the primary surgical method used in major Istanbul hospitals.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgical abortion costs from $800 to $1,400. However, medical termination packages in Istanbul actually cost more, averaging around A$5,100. Private JCI-accredited hospitals bundle medical terminations with intensive testing and specialist consultations. This follows Turkey's strict pharmaceutical regulations.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that private Turkish clinics provide efficient same-day services and prioritise discretion. Many travellers appreciate the straightforward booking process in Istanbul for time-sensitive care.

What are the legal consent requirements for a surgical abortion in Turkey?

Legal consent for surgical abortion in Turkey depends on age and marital status. These rules fall under the Population Planning Law No. 2827. The procedure is legal on request up to the 10th week. However, married women require written spousal consent. Minors under 18 need parental or guardian permission.

  • Single adults: Unmarried women aged 18+ provide independent legal consent without third-party permission.
  • Married patients: Written consent from the husband is mandatory for the procedure to proceed.
  • Minors: Patients under 18 require consent from a parent or legal guardian.
  • Foreign residents: International patients must follow the same age and marital status laws.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Single adults aged 18+ have autonomy. However, the spousal consent rule for married women is strictly enforced. Private JCI-accredited clinics in Istanbul, such as Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, verify these legal documents. They do this during pre-operative consultations to follow Turkish law.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest confirming exact paperwork needs with the clinic before travelling to Turkey. It is helpful to get these requirements in writing to prevent delays upon arrival.

Can Australian tourists access surgical abortion services in Turkey?

Australian tourists can access surgical abortion services at private Turkish clinics, though strict legal criteria apply. Procedures are legally restricted to the first 10 weeks of gestation. Married women require written spousal consent. Single women over 18 can provide their own consent at accredited private hospitals.

  • Gestational limit: Elective procedures are strictly limited to the first 10 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Consent laws: Married patients must provide a husband’s signature under current Turkish legal requirements.
  • Facility type: Services are primarily available through JCI-accredited private hospitals like Memorial Şişli Hospital.
  • Standard methods: Specialists typically use vacuum aspiration, a safe outpatient surgical technique for termination.
  • Cost range: Procedures cost from $800 to $1,400, saving some 43% over Australian averages.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgical abortion is the standard. However, some JCI-accredited facilities like Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital offer medical termination packages up to 10 weeks. These packages often include all pre-operative tests and consultations. This helps avoid unexpected fees often found in smaller regional clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that private clinics in Turkey are the most reliable option for non-residents. International travellers recommend confirming gestational limits and required documentation with the clinic before booking flights.

How is a surgical abortion performed in a Turkish clinic?

Surgical abortion in Turkish clinics uses vacuum aspiration. This safe method terminates pregnancies up to the 10th legal week. The procedure involves gentle suction to remove pregnancy tissue. This occurs under local anaesthesia or light intravenous sedation at accredited private hospitals and specialist gynaecology clinics.

  • Legal timeframe: Access is available upon request up to the 10th week of pregnancy under Turkish law.
  • Clinical setting: Private JCI-accredited facilities, like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, maintain rigorous safety and hygiene standards.
  • Vacuum aspiration: Doctors use a thin cannula and gentle suction, typically completing the process in 15 minutes.
  • Anaesthesia options: Most patients choose light sedation so the procedure is painless and stress-free.
  • Legal requirements: Married women require a husband’s signature. Unmarried women over 18 provide their own consent.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic clinics offer lower prices, JCI-accredited hospitals provide specialists like Dr Esra Tustas Haberal. She has performed 900+ procedures. These high-volume centres often bundle preoperative tests and consultations into one fee. This simplifies the process for patients arriving from interstate or overseas.

Patient Consensus: Patients often mention the professional atmosphere at Istanbul clinics. They value having a follow-up appointment scheduled before they depart Turkey. The fast recovery and the discreet, supportive nature of private medical staff are frequently highlighted as comfortng aspects.

Is medical abortion (the abortion pill) an option in Turkey if I prefer to avoid surgery?

Medical abortion is available at specific private hospitals in Turkey for pregnancies up to 10 weeks. Leading JCI-accredited facilities in Istanbul offer medical termination packages as a non-surgical alternative. Notable locations include Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital and Memorial Ataşehir Hospital.

  • Medical packages: Terminations up to 10 weeks cost approximately A$5,100 at accredited Memorial Hospitals.
  • Clinical oversight: Specialists like Dr Veysel Sal provide medical termination including pre-operative tests and consultations.
  • Surgical alternative: Vacuum aspiration is the primary surgical option, costing from $800 to $1,400.
  • Accredited facilities: Many providers hold JCI accreditation for international standards in patient safety and care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Medical abortion is an option at top hospitals like Memorial Göztepe for A$5,100. This is significantly higher than surgical options at Hisar Hospital. The price typically includes all screenings and consultations to manage the process safely.

Patient Consensus: Confirm with clinics if they use your expected medications before arriving. Many patients recommend getting written confirmation of the non-surgical pathway. The availability of the pill often varies between facilities in Turkey.
