Inflatable penile implants can be inflated and deflated using a pump and valve. The pump unit is placed between the skin of the scrotal sac located between the testicles. Before sexual intercourse, fluid is pumped from the reservoir inside the abdomen or testicle to the penis using the pump, causing the penis to become erect. Then, after intercourse, the fluid returns to the reservoir inside the penis by pressing the deflation valve at the base of the pump, and the penis returns to normal.
